Ignition physically getting stuck

When I first got the bike, 01 w/ 25k, the ignition was a little stubborn sometimes, as in it wouldn't move out of the 'off' position to the 'lock' or 'on' position easily.  We've been getting tons of rain recently, and whether that is a factor or not, it has got very difficult to move from the 'off' position.  It usually takes 10-20 seconds manipulating it, and I'm afraid I'll eventually get stuck or frustrated to the point I accidently break it.  

Is this something I can have rebuilt at a lock smith's, as I have a good source, or a new OEM part i must buy?  Perhaps spray some contact cleaner/WD-40 in there first?

My car is a 91 ls400 and has a warm start problem, and my only other transportation is the bike which I don't want any problems with.

I had trouble with mine an 05 until I figured out that if you turn the handle bars from turning sideways to straight it works fine.

WD-40 or some silicone spray should fix it right up.   :bigok:

Get some WD 40 with the little red extension tube.  Stick the tube into the lock and spray away, you can't ruin anything.  Let soak a few seconds and then put the key in.  You should be good to go!

WD40 works well but LockEase seems to last longer as it is more a lubricant and less a solvent.  My old VX800 had a very sticky ignition that was related to a badly cut replacement key.  My '97 B12 ignition also gets sticky - too many of it's 28,000 miles were in the rain and I used WD40 frequently until I started using Lockease - now it's once or twice a year.
