Odd thing happened....
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:58:01 PM »
i took my bike to a shop today by way of a trailer because of the recent weather we are having, but beside that fact i started my B6 up and it ran just fine, loaded it up on the trailer strapped her down and away i went.. now when i got to the shop which is about 30 mins away i unhook the bike and back it off the trailer and put it in neutral, pull the clutch and press the ignition and nothing happens... so i double check everything making sure the switch is on and i am in neutral and still nothing... anyone know what could have happened???

Guess i should add that it wouldnt even try to turn over... just press the button and nothing at all....

Odd indeed.  I'm not sure of the B6 but I know that some bikes come with a switch that cuts ignition if the bike's inclination changes drastically (as when you tip the bike and fuel is going everywhere).  If the B6 has one, it could have been triggered going up and down the trailer.  It should have returned to its normal off position once the bike leveled, but yours may be stuck.  Try finding it and bypassing it.

Alternatively, I would look into other loss of ignition sources which may have nothing to do with the bike's transport.  Before anything, check battery voltage and do a load test.  Then try starting the bike with the kickstand UP, clutch IN, and in neutral.  If the problem is starter related, you could try push-starting the bike.  After all this, I would check the ignition switch and the kill switch.  I hope this helps.

well i told the shop about it and they said they would look at it... i just found it odd.... i figure it may have had a safety kill switch... that shut it off if it was bounced around too much, but i dont know, may have pulled a wire loose when i was strapping it down or something like that, i hope its nothing too major

If you B6 has the same clutch interface switch that my B12 has (at the clutch lever on the grip), you could have a loose wire at the switch.  I had the same problem (unexplained lack of start).  I could tell it was not the battery since it was a total lack of attempt to start.  I posted the problem to this board, and the problem was identified for me.

I put a little di-electric gel in the switch and reattached the wires, and the problem went away!

Yes the switch is probably sticky. I disabled that silly safety on my GS750EF and when the warranty period runs out I'll probably do the same for this bike. It's annoying and if it screws up it can leave you stranded unless you fix it Jihad style by cutting and splicing the wires and twisting them together. Looks ugly as hell like that. Spray the shit out of the switch with WD-40 then follow up with some dialectic grease. You'll be fine.
