Quick and Easy Suspension Question!
« on: February 09, 2012, 04:15:09 AM »
Howdy guys!  Hogging a lot of time on the thread as of late(finished work as a Peace Corps Volunteer a month ago....so lots of time to play in Lesotho, now!)  One of our three bandit 400s had some seriously dinged up forks...the previous owner had tried replacing the seals but the oil just poured out.  Took them to people to be re-chromed and they told us it was hopeless...so we ordered secondhand forks.  We were assured the forks would be ready to use.

This being Southern Africa, we got a complete left shock assembly...and a sleeve, by itself.  The sleeve by itself is indeed a mystery, as the damper-rod holding assembly at the bottom of the sleeve is not present.  Initially i thought i could remove the assembly from the old forks and swap them out.  Now i'm wondering, as the 'lip' is probably required and probably can't be changed from one sleeve to another without a couple tons of force...something i don't have available in these mountains.

Am I an idiot and missing something--are these damper-rod holders easily swappable, or do I need to rip some a-hole a new one?  Thanks a ton!  Here's pics to help explain:

Problem solved(ish).  Sending the new(er) and the original to the provider to have the 'lip' removed and replaced onto the new one.
