RF 900 can questions
« on: April 19, 2005, 11:42:12 AM »
What is the going rate?  Is $40 high?

I want smoother running without a lot more noise.  I Plan on a holeshot stage 1 modified jet kit and air filter with this pipe.  Has anyone had good luck with this combination?  Any advice (not that I need to ask for advice, I'm sure I'll get it either way)

Thanks kids.

From what I understand... the RF900 pipe isn't going to have any more performance than a stock Bandit pipe.... it's just compatible with the Bandit.  Might as well save the $40 and buy a Yosh or Holeshot.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The RF9 can is a little more free flowing than the B12 can - and a little louder. Not as load as an aftermarket can, even the quietest ones, but also doesn't breathe as freely as they do either.

$40 sounds like a good price to me.

The RF9 can only works on the 1G B12 though.
It'll bolt up to a 01-03 2G, but the tip will point off in a funky direction.

Thanks Paul.  I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.  I emailed Holeshot about putting his jet kit with RF900 can and he told me to buy his slip-on.  As much as I want to open the bike up, I don't want it loud.   I also want it to run more smoothly at the lower end.

I need to find some guys with B12's and slip-ons so I can get an idea what I'm looking at (listening to).  My last bike, and FZR600 with a full V&H system was just way too loud.

It is a 2000 B12 btw.

I figured yours was a 2000 from your avatar, I just put the 1G/2G info in there for others.

I can understand how you feel about noise... Should you decide to go with an aftermarket can, the Holeshot 17" Street and 21" Touring cans as well as the Yoshimura street cans are not too objectionable. I didn't want a loud can either, so went with a 17" Holeshot Street can. (He didn't have the Touring can back then.) "Steve" has a Yosh street can on his B12, I've riden with him several times. I'd say it's just a touch quieter than mine. Both will let out a nice tone in the upper rpm's, but still not be punishing at normal cruise speeds. You shouldn't upset any neighbors - unless you want to.

Now you did it.  Now I want to spend $600. I emailed Holeshot, Dale responded.  Basically told me what I already knew.  Spent some time on his website.

I like the 21" slipon, very long, shotgun-like.  Supposedly it is quiet too.  That, a jet kit and ignition advancer and I'll be on my way.

And you will be pleasantly surprised by how much this wakes the bike up!
You'll be setting another 15 or so horses loose. :beers:
