shifter not always returning???
« on: March 17, 2012, 12:35:39 PM »
It's been a long time since I've been here, but I'm hoping there's a Bandit expert here that might be able to get me going in the right direction...

I have a 97 GSF1200S with 45K miles on it thats develpoed a shifting problem.  Sometimes when down shifting the shifter stays down after a down shift, so when I try to down shift again, I have to lift it up a little before it will work.

Does anyone know if there's an adjustment or a replacement part that will fix this?

Hey Pillage

Check that there is not a large buildup of chain lube "mung" all over the shift shaft where it runs through the left side case.

Regardless, I would remove the left side sprocket cover, clean everything and check the shift shaft for bending or damage. If this doesn't happen every time, it is likely the shift shaft is binding in the left side case, either because it is bent. damaged or full of crap.

"or full of crap"
LOL - It's my bike so that's probably the problem!  Thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know what I find.
