Setting up Carbs

I have an RF 400 with a Mikuni BST32 carb. The bike was working quite happily up until 1 month ago. I haven't ridden it since then but now that I've came to start it it, it won't start. I know the tank is slightly rusty so I've taken the carbs off and cleaned them. The 1st carb (far left) is now leaking petrol and the bike is backfiring. What could be the problem and what  is the air/fuel screw setting ? I've been told it's 2/12 full turns out but this is having no joy.
I'm pulling my hair out..........help !!!!!!!

I had the same problem two months ago. I let the bike sit for a month and then it wouldn't run for crap. I ended up taking it in to a shop after trying everything I could think of. Turns out the gas had eaten through something in the carbs, and they had to be rebuilt. Unless anyone else has any ideas, I'd say try to find a carb rebuild kit. Worked like a charm for mine. Just wish I had done it myself and saved $500 :boohoo:

Diaphrams maybe? They are expensive.
2005 Bandit 1200, Modified Holeshot Stage 1 with 17.5 pilots 2.75 turns out, and 110 mains 5 shims. Muzzy Slip on w/mid-pipe, stock filter. 1.5" hole in the airbox lid.

that's what it was on mine. The dealer said something in the gas burned a hole in the diaphragm on the #3 carb (I pretended I knew what he was talking about).
