Extreme brain farct

I decided to change my oil last Sunday AM; It was a chilly NC Florida morning and as usual I started the bike to warm up the oil so that it would drain better......... the phone rings..... it's my lab calling with a minor but time consuming and obviously distracting emergency. I deal with the problem forgetting the the bike is running in the garage with the choke 1/4 on.

When the "Oh, S##T" finally reaches my brain i run to the garage, the bike isn't running and there is a haze of smoke filling the room. The smell of burnt oil was over powering. The bike was extremely hot so I cooled the motor with a high volume fan. There was no oil showing in the sight glass so I went ahead and changed the oil cranked it up (started fine) circulated the oil for a short time and then changed it again.

So what have I done to my bike? Opinions? sugestions?
Sticks in the eye?

additional info: I've noticed slightly louder valve chatter. There is louder faring vibe noise at >4000 rpm (there is noticable warping of the faring :duh: )
The bike has noticably more power, better accel???
I have been monitoring the oil consumption after every ride; there seems to be none.???

so let the beatings begin :monkeymoon:

Unless you removed the filler cap or loosened the drain plug before your brain fart, I would say you just overheated the sheeeet out of it sitting idle with choke on and burned a bunch of oil off-possibly through the vent.  Doesn't sound like you fouled a plug, so I doubt the choke got it that rich.

Don't worry bout it, next time you change your oil - look for metal frags, if you're still dwelling on it...

I remember a day way back when, when a number of different bikes from Triumphs to Suzuki two strokes to even a Nimbus were ceasing all the time. I'd just cool em off and ride em some more. They are tough little buggers.

I wouldn't worry about it much.  These Japanese 4 cyl. engines are bulletproof.  There was a video floating around on the net a while back taken by a motorcycle magazine doing an article doing a piece on what it takes to fry an engine.  They took an R1 engine ran it at high rpm's with duct tape holding the throttle down, drained the oil and coolant out.  The damn thing got so overheated it caught on fire and still kept on running!!!  They shut it off put the fire out and waited until the next day and it started right up on the first try.  Bulletproof is an understatement!
Ride on!

Other than the fairing meltdown I dout you hurt anything. These blasted things are just about bullet proof.
I once went to an event where we paid money to guess when a Honda CB 550 would blow up when the throttle was taped WFO.
Well the blasted bike ran for over 1 hr wide open with no cooling air on the bike!!! The head exhaust area ws cherry red!
We drained the oil and it still ran over 20 minutes!!!
We got tired of this and when it was running full speed with no oil I sprayed water on the motor and hydro locked it when water went into the intake.
She died then.

Thanks for the replies guys.

been ridine as i would normally still no noticable effects

have to do something about my discolored pipes though. Ive seen the vids of the bike abuse as well, it's amazing what these machines can take. I've watched some of the local stunters put a lot of stress on their bikes and cringe; but none of them have heat warped their faring.

Any theories as to why it would seem to have gotten a performance boost? Did I "burn the cobs out". My father always said that no motor was good untill you did that.

Most likely the spark plugs have fused to the block resulting in better conductivity and a hotter spark... huge gains in performance but your next plug change is going to be a real bitch!!!

Discolored pipes: (you're fighting a losing battle)...
You can keep 'em clean, but stainless turns when it gets heated...  Nothing you can do about chemistry and metal...  Law of science...  Unless you replace the pipes with aftermarket headers that are ceramic coated....  you're stuck with what all stock pipes do-turn a goldlish color with high heat from engine exhaust...

Here's a pic of mine with only a 1000 miles on it, still polished once a week back then...  Notice they are already gold, while the shields (less heat) are still silver...

If the SPs are fused you are lookin at a helicoil job or even a new head.
And I find the gold color of my pipes very attractive. If they actually went blue from overheat that would be another story. I saw a year old Bonney with badly blued pipes and I wasn't impressed. Especially at that price.

your a real jocker. had me going there for a sec.

I like it when the pipes are golden; goes well with the green of the '03. mine are charcoal grey now.  thinking about taking them off and bead blasting them [/quote]
