When to use Locktite

I have a question about the usage of locktite.  Should I use it on the carb drain screws?  In general, when is it necessary to secure thread with locktite?  Any advice from your experience?

NO! don't use loc-tite on any carb parts. I use blue on most things though. Brake mounts, anything on the frame,pinch bolts,any lock nuts that are reused. Sprocket bolts I use red, Make sure you clean and degreese them 1st. I hit the threads on the wire wheel,spray them with laquer thinner(you can use carb cleaner) then blow them off.

This is my first bike and I am going DIY, so it really helps to have the stupid questions answered before I make stupid mistakes.  :)

I make a practice of visually checking bolts and fasteners everytime I give the B12 a bath.  You can use the Blue loctite on body part fasteners, clutch covers, hose support bolts.  Just about anything exterior.  Grab a 10 and 12 mil, a set of allens, and as you wash and dry just give each fastener a tug to make sure they are seated....lots of stuff will work itself loose over time.  This is especially true of those damn quads we have...sheeesh! :roll:

And on body parts where you don't use loc-tite,a little dap of silicone works well.

What's the difference between the different colors of Loc-Tite?

This is off the top of my head, so it may not be exactly as the bottles say...this the jest of it:
BLUE:  any application where vibration is a concern, it can be removed with ordinary hand tools
RED:  same as above, but heat and special tools may be required to remove the parts once the red sets up
Green:  I don't know who uses this stuff.  We tried it once on a couple of bolts on a variable speed drive at work as they kept working loose.  We had to DRILL OUT the old ones, retap for new ones when it came time to replace it... :shock:   If you get it on your fingers....don't touch your penis!! :stickpoke: (you shouldn't be touching yourself while working anyway...show some restraint...damn!) :roll:

So the green loc-tite should never be a sub for KY, either?
