Sitting for over a year!!--Advice!
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:41:19 PM »
My bike has been sitting for over a year now.  Now I am able to start riding but first things first?

In order .....what steps would yall take to get your bike in riding order?  I do have a download of the service Manual.  I changed the battery and put in some new gas with sea foam.  This weekend someone is teaching me to change the oil.  I know my carbs probably needs to be cleaned.  I have an option of taking it to a bike shop (no suzuki store out here) or trying to clean them myself  :yikes:  :banghead: (Actually I really would like to try to do it myself)

I think I might be doing things out of order in getting my bike in riding condition.  What should I do first, second, third, etc etc etc.  Any advice would be appreciated!!!  :thanks:

Bandits are pretty tough....  depending on how the bike was stored you might not need to do much.

I'd start by.......... starting it (fresh gas please) and seeing how it runs.  The seafoam might help clean some stuff out and you might avoid tearing into the carbs.

Check the air filter to make sure no critters have nested in there - replace if necessary.  Lube the chain, check chain tightness, check the spark plug wires are seated fully, check your tire pressure....  start with the easy stuff and report your findings.

A quick check shows you have a Bandit 400 - I'm afraid I won't be much help beyond the above.
