There's got to be a better way to do this without having to hold the cam in the left hand...some kind of a stand to hold the cam maybe...anyone with a good idea ?
Handholding and watching the road makes for poor quality...

To hell with Darwin...at the age I am now, the guy is too late, besides, I've done "stoopider" things in my fun life, and I'm still here to laugh about it...
But, of course, the post is about finding a better way (and safer) to do things...like some kind of home made device to hold the cam safely..is really what I'm asking about here...

To that end one of the other recent post shows a device one of our fellow banditos had made for his bike. It mounts securely to the gas cap bolts on the tank and utilizes the cameras own tri-pod mount. After viewing his riding video I think you will come away quite impressed with it's functionality.

As Swamp Rat stated, you can get camera mounts that bolt on to the gas tank cover. However, to do what this guy was trying, which was for you to see the instruments as well, a head-mounted camera would be better. You can see examples of both here:
http://www.pashnit.com/more/cameramount.htm

That's a good chunk of change to do this kind of stuff, unless you're totally into it. A cheaper alternative is this:
http://www.stickypod.com/motorcycle_camera_mount.html

Mounted back enough it can easily get the instruments. They swear the thing'll stay on! They even say you can stick it on your helmet (you should look REALLY weird going down the road with that get-up  ). I wonder if the rubber would dampen vibration.

How do I download that video, Mongo?  I really enjoyed watching it.  Good choice of music as well.  On the first video, I kept waiting for something to happen.

I'm limited to 5-minute video clips with photo bucket, I guess if I paid the $25 bucks a year I could upload 10 minute Video's.

I was out with Turbo Bob and his wife Beth when I shot this video on our way to classic bike show; we decided to hit the canyons instead of the freeway!

The Road is called Little Tujunga Canyon in Los Angeles County!

I’ll try to post more from the video if I still have it on my hard drive!
