Motorcycle lesson leaves 2 injured after collision with car

Two people preparing to leave for the motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., most likely won't be making the trip, Fremont Police said today.

At about 11:02 a.m. Tuesday, Richard A. Johnson, 48, of Fremont was attempting to teach Janelle S. Morton, 37, of Fremont to ride a motorcycle, said Deputy Chief Steve Tellatin.

"He was riding on the back when she lost control, accelerated rapidly and struck a parked car," Tellatin said.

Johnson fell off the back of the motorcycle prior to impact, but Morton was ejected on impact, landing between two parked cars. She was transported by air ambulance to an Omaha hospital with back injuries. No condition report was available.

Johnson initially refused treatment, but later sought medical treatment at Fremont Area Medical Center for minor injuries.

Neither Morton nor Johnson were wearing helmets during the incident and Morton had no motorcycle endorsement. Police said blood work was taken from Morton and there are possible driving under the influence charges pending.
