Bandit for a Busa
« on: June 01, 2006, 04:43:13 AM »
I was thinking of trading my Bandit 1200 in for a Hayabusa, my mates tell me Im stupid, but after taking a Busa for a ride I'm sort of hooked on its icon appeal, it held the road better than the Bandit especially on sweeping bends, but not as nimble in the tight curves, amazingly between 80-140km/hr I didnt notice alot of difference in acelleration, but after that the bandit wouldnt have a show of keeping up. I am now a Sunday fine weather rider & would like to hear from anyone who has the made the change for good or bad.

At the risk of being flamed...

I know 'Busas are Suzuki's top of the line and that they are really, really fast, but honestly they look....um....funky.  And can you live with that riding position all the time?

What if you ever want to ride for hours somewhere?  I pity you in advance.

But...make yourself happy!

 Well, I'm going to say, go for it. It has about 155 rwhp stock, it is water cooled, and it is the only motorcycle, at the Texas Mile, to over 200 mph

I've just never warmed up to the looks of the Busa myself. The ergos don't appeal to me either. That said, there's a lot of folks who like the looks and the ergos - and plenty of folks Sport-Tour on them. So I say if you like it and it works for you, go for it!

I would agree with red and others, I could never get over the looks, or lack of. I think its an awesome bike, the new ZX14 doesnt scare me, they aint seen the new busa yet, but boy is that bike funky looking. I wish they would make some changes, its been the same for many years.

how much time do you spend above the posted speed limit? It sounds from your post that the get up and go wasn't that much of a diffrence between the two, it is really the top end. I look at the busa as bragging rights. I couldn't justify spending that type of money (and being bent over the table on insurance :crybaby: ) buying a bike that is the "fastest sport production bike" when I try really really hard not to get a ticket. I had a hard time justifying the 1200 bandit, except I got it for $1650 and you cant hardly buy a ninja 250 for that.

It just depends on what you want.  I feel between traffic, road limitations, and rider ability, the 'Busa is way, way beyond what a normal rider can and will use.  The sport bike oriented ergos can be a factor if you do long cruises.  If you want the pose factor, the Busa is it.  I was riding the local waterfront the other day and saw a Busa in the new Pearl White, looked awesome.

Go to my Web Site and look at the green busa, in the 4th picture. I built a stroker motor for that bike that carried the 300+ lb. rider to a 9.9 second quarter mile, and the custom green paint job on this bike, is outstanding

Different strokes, I guess.  I like the looks of them... in an 87 Trans Am sort of way.  Asthetically, I like them WAY better than the new ZX14!  :pukey:

This 'busa would be nice.

Managed 240.3mph.

Seriously I quite fancy one. Or maybe a ZX12R.

All the best

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the first time I saw a ZX14 at a bike show, my knees went weak and I just about creamed my jeans!  It was all in black and it was in a bit of a darkened area and with those sexy flanks I wanted to crawl over to it and make love to it right then and there.  I shoulda had my holeshot condoms!

Can you walk up to her and look her right in the headlight and tell her she ain't beautiful?  No?  I didn't think so.

Well, if someone gave me a choice of a free 'Busa or a free ZX14, I'd have to jump ship and take the Kwacker. I like it's looks a lot better. Still not a big fan of the Testarossa fins in the bodywork.

I'm hoping the rumors of the Kawi GTR14 come true... that might sway me from my current dreams of a FJR.

As far as acceleration, you gotta tach the busa up to 9500 or 10,000 rpm and shift in that range to get max acceleration.  It'll definetly whack a bandit.  Of course the busa's ergo's might get old for you after the initial love affair is over.  Mine did with me.  Sold it after 1500 miles.  Heli bars might have worked well.  The stock screen is stupid low.  It's only designed for a top speed run and offers wind protection for your crotch and that's about it.  I like the busa's looks at least as well as the new ZX-14.  But if the ZX-14 has better ergo's I would go with it.  Also, rumors are that Suzuki will unlease a new busa in 2007 to dethrone the ZX-14.
Good luck.  Do what your heart says. You can always get another Bandit sometime.  There are what, twenty gazillion of them out there.
Riding motorcycles..........and loving it! :-)
