Be careful out there!
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:48:28 PM »
Scared myself silly today!. Last November I bought a new Honda ST1300 and have been racking up the miles on it while the Bandit sat sedately in the garage, only going out for an occasional keep the battery and fluids active short ride. Today, after a trip on the ST, I grabbed the 1200 and headed for the stores, and decided to take a back road just for fun. Coming off a turn I grabbed the throttle just like I'd done earlier on the ST.......and got a great view of the lenses of the street lamps overhead! I'm sure if anyone saw that wheelie, they were duly impressed, I know I was! After telling all the would be litrebike wannabes that you really have to respect what these things can do, I wind up giving myself an object lesson.   :banghead:

 Reminds me of last Wednesday when my son & I were in the local Honda/Suzuki shop spending a little cash and waiting in line at the cashier we struck up a conversation with a guy who owns a '08 Busa.  My son was telling him how he wants to get a Busa as his next bike and the guy asked him what he rode.  When he told him he rides a B12, the guy warned him about the Busa and how much more careful he'd have to be with throttle application...
...like the B12 was some little powerless starter bike like a 250 Rebel or something.

We all know the Busa (in old or new form) is more powerful, but the B12 is no slouch.  :beers:

last guy I rode with on a busa couldn't believe what the bandit could do...he also thought i was on a beginner bike that would force him to slow down. Well I guess it did, the bandit IS no match for a turbo busa in a straight line.

Well yeah, in a straight line, its no contest.  The Bus will go bye bye.  On a twisty road, the "win" will go to the better rider.  My B12 has watched a few ZZR12's in its mirrors and I dont expect a Bus handles curves much, if any, better than a ZZR.

Oh I just KNOW you're not busting on my ZED! :bigok: I think you'd be surprised at how well the ZZR handles when the rider takes the time to adjust his suspension and know what he's doing. Like you said...it'll come down to the rider in the end. None of the these bikes are slouches by any stretch of the imagination.

Back when I had my first gen ZX-10 (1989 model), I had no problem keeping a Busa at bay in the curves. Straights were a no brainer, that bike simply walked me. Ahh those were the days. What a great bike that was, sure was a pig but man it could boogie.
