Motorbike rider dies in head-on crash May 9 2005

A man died yesterday when he was thrown from his motorbike after a head-on crash with a car.

Robin Mark Hill[correct] was riding a black Suzuki bike[correct] on the A689 near Cleugh House[correct], Kellhope[correct], County Durham, when he tried to overtake a blue Yamaha[correct] motorbike and crashed into a Toyota Carina [correct] travelling in the opposite direction.

The 32-year-old man from Crook, County Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota and the Yamaha's rider were not seriously hurt and did not need hospital treatment.

A Durham Police spokesman said last night: "About noon yesterday a fatal accident occurred on the A689 in Weardale, County Durham, involving two motorcycles and a car.

"A Suzuki GSXR 1000cc[correct] motorcycle travelling West overtook a Yamaha R6 600cc [correct] motorcycle on a blind right-hand bend. In doing so, the Suzuki has collided head-on with a blue Toyota Carina.

"The rider of the Suzuki was thrown over the car and sustained fatal injuries.

"Debris from the collision hit the second motorcycle, which suffered slight damage. Its rider was unhurt.

"At the time of the accident road conditions were good with dry roads and fine weather. Police are appealing for witness and ask anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible."

The A689 was closed for more than three hours following the crash as police accident investigators examined the scene. It was reopened at about 3.15pm.

I had done the same route only a week ago, and there's a lot of bad overtaken happing on this strech of road. There was also a road trip up there, for another Biker who had died, to raise a bit of cash for his family.

Shit happens but you can help to keep it down by not being a dick on the roads. :boohoo:

It's tough to figure out when you can crank it on, and when you can't get away with it.

Getting real aggressive with sportbikes needs to be done on the track.

Just riding at about 70% of the bikes capabilities, and probably 95% of mine, I sometimes get into trouble.

Reading about it happening to the 'other' rider is bad enough.......

You never know what's around that corner.......
