GILFORD — A motorcyclist led police on a 90 mph chase down Lakeshore Road Wednesday morning before turning onto Lockes Hill Road and crashing, police allege.

Gilford police reported that Corey Donovan, 24, of Laconia, crashed his 2005 Yamaha R1 motorcycle on the unpaved portion of Lockes Hill Road at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officer Corey O'Connor said he was traveling westbound on Lakeshore Road near Sawyer's Dairy Bar when Donovan, traveling eastbound, passed him. O'Connor said that Donovan's motorcycle was traveling 90 mph, according to a radar reading. O'Connor turned on his emergency lights and gave pursuit.

When the two reached the intersection of routes 11 and 11B, O'Connor stopped at the intersection, in accordance with Gilford Police Department procedure.

"(Donovan) accelerated and continued through the intersection," O'Connor said. When the officer proceeded through the intersection, "(Donovan) was out of sight at that point."

The officer continued to follow, but could not locate Donovan immediately, police said.

"There were actually some people walking," O'Connor said, who saw Donovan turn onto Lockes Hill Road. O'Connor said that he then turned onto the road, and discovered Donovan shortly after. The officer said that Donovan had crashed his vehicle.

"He had a pretty deep laceration on the back of his head," O'Connor said. Beyond that, the officer said, Donovan had suffered bruises and cuts.

Donovan was arrested immediately, but transported from the scene in an ambulance, O'Connor said. Donovan did not resist arrest following the crash.

Donovan has been charged with reckless operation, disobeying a police officer and suspended registrations. He was released on $2,000 personal recognizance.

He also faces two charges for acts alleged in Meredith, according to the Meredith Police.
