I know many of you have seen this pic before...

I have been mulling over the idea lately of buying my girl a new set of clothes (she's candy velvety maroon now) so she'd look somewhat similar to this pic, except for being an "S", rather than naked.

Maroon frame with glossy black tailpiece, tank, fairing, and front fender. I love black and maroon is a cool contrast (IMHO). What do you think? I've already priced the new parts and I think I could do the swap myself.

Forget the expense. I'm mainly interested in the opinions of the aesthetics of the deal.

This ought to be good!

Geeze....you're talking about $1500 in parts, at least, although you could recover some of the $$ selling your old stuff.
You ought to be able to get the stuff you have painted for a third that much, right?
(Just the stuff you want black...)
If you've seen the Pearl Novelty Black Suz slaps on the bikes, it's pretty cool....has blue metallic in it when you look close.
I wonder if there's some Black metallic or metalflake, or pearlish color that would have some undertone that would contrast or compliment your maroon frame? Maybe a silver undertone, or something....

Got my new job started this week and I love it! So I can finally start saving up for my Bandit 1200 next year.

I like that scheme, personally if I was customising a big Bandit, I'd go for all black, with electric blue frame and rim tapes. Look sexual. I made a picture

I've got it worked out to more like $1,000. Now, I could always buy a black bandit, but I like mine and I don't think they're making black ones right now. I'd keep my existing pieces (not referring to the avatar) in case I ever needed them or wanted to swap back for awhile. Maybe alternating colors every year...maroon in '05, black in '06, back to maroon in '07.

Am I crazy or what. But it sounds cool to me!

Ok I made that picture a while ago and couldn't be bothered to put the mudguard back to black, but I like it!

I like that blue frame/black body thing. I'm leaning....leaning....

The blue seat is a nice touch. I like colored seats.

Crud! I'm gonna need a maroon seat from Sargent for this project. You just cost me a couple of hundred bucks!

Sorry mate! Haha that was only a quick botch-up job on Photoshop, have a mess around yourself. It's fun to make a load of design ideas before you make the final decision.

Herb - I love that pic. I think it would look good on a 2G, too. Painting seems like and easier/cheaper option but I love the concept.

Hey! Sounds like my bike! I just got this one done this week. Still waiting on the GSG Clutch cover, and the side panels are currently being painted. But so far this is what I have:

Once it's completely done, I was planning on doing a page with reviews of the process (stripped down to the frame) and reviews of the parts I used (Holeshot, BanditMania, Renegade, etc.)

The headlights are LSL Mig Lights. I really like them.

Okay, here's some more. Note that the shots are really crappy. The flash on the digital camera really washed out the colors, making the reds and blues MUCH brighter then they acutally are. The final pics will be much better (better camera):

I'm dealing with a flat spot, and an erratic tachometer right now. Still waiting on some parts as well...But all in all, I'm pretty happy so far.

Bgrundy that is easily the tastiest paintscheme on a Bandit (possible even a motorcycle in general) I have ever seen! And I didn't steal your idea but you have inspired me to go ahead with it when I get my big Bandit. Nice, very nice

Barry, dude, I'm blown away! That isn't gonna be everyone's cup 'o tea, but I think it's cool factor is off the scale!!!

The blue cables/lines and the red trim around the gas cap and steering head nut are great. I like your "during" pic, but I'd be scared scheissless to disassemble my bike to that extreme.

Thanks! Hey, I'd love to see your rendition of what I tried to do. There's lots of room on the road. I'll bet there's lots of blue/black bikes out there.

Actually, it's easier than it looks. I have the most basic of mech skills. All it takes is a) plenty of room, b) a service manual, c) a digital camera to take lots of pictures for reference d) the right (basic) set of tools. My biggest investment (other than the price of the parts, painting and powdercoating) was $250 for a big compressor and impact wrench. A GREAT help with engine and swingarm bolts, etc.

Time is the other big thing. I spent most of the summer wrenching instead of riding...
