Motard is the French word for motorcyclist.
I thought we'd been down this road before - about where the term Supermotard came from. To rehash it, it all started with ABC Wide World of Sports coming up with a motorcycle equivalent to the IROC series. They called it Superbikers. They took top riders from all the different genres of m/c racing and put them on a combined paved/dirt course. After a few seasons, they quit the show. The French loved the concept though and continued on with it, calling it Supermotard. As it has gained worldwide popularity, it's usually called Supermoto now, but some still use the French term.
Another one I really like is the new Aprilia SXV 450/550, which are real Supermotos, not Supermoto styled 900+ bikes.
