Last fall I picked up my '01 Bandit 1200S for $2,900 off eBay from a local Kawasaki shop (yea, no shipping!). I'm told that I stole the thing; did I actually do good?

So far I've added the Givi top kit and top case, Metisse frame sliders, and the much higher ZeroGravity touring windscreen, and Helibars. Is there anything else worthwhile I should consider?

Still wish for a more V-Strom style riding position, though.

Unless the thing was beat up or had high miles, it sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

As far as what else to consider - depends on what you want. Sounds like you're headed in the sport-tourer direction... you might want to think about a Corbin seat, a Suzuki gel seat (no longer available new), or getting the stocker reconfigured to be more comfortable. Most folks don't find the stock seat "all-day" or "many-day" comfortable.

How is it on oil consumption? Some 01-02 models had a problem in this area.

I can't tell that it's used any at all for months, but just to be sure I looked up what VIN numbers were involved and mine is after the problems. I'm only good for an hour before I get numb-butt, so I'd thought of sending the stock seat off to Sargent Cycle to get more foam and some color trim on the thing. Did that with my K75's seat and was really happy with it. I'm told Corbin's take a long, long time to break in?? Don't know 'bout the Suzi gel seats. You tried one?

You have a 2001 B12, right? How can you have one with a VIN number after the problem when the correction point was a VIN in mid 2002 production?

Granted, not all bikes in the range have a problem - mine doesn't - but if it's a 2001, it's in the range.

No, I haven't tried a gel seat. I had ordered one back in 2001, but found a great deal on a Corbin, so I cancelled the order. I didn't notice any break-in time on mine, but I know some people talk about it. I did buy mine used, but it only had ~60 miles on it, so if it required any break-in, I'm sure it wasn't done that quickly.
