Man killed in motorcycle accident outside home

A 23-year-old Kennewick man died Tuesday after driving his brand-new motorcycle through the fence of his Kennewick apartment complex.

Aaron C. Fouts was driving a 2005 Buell motorcycle he had just purchased that morning westbound on Kennewick Avenue and lost control when he attempted to turn into the driveway of Desert Brook Apartments.

Officer Dion Mason of the Kennewick Police Department said details on the accident are sketchy because there were no witnesses.

Mason said it appeared Fouts failed to make the turn into the complex about 4 p.m. and the motorcycle jumped the curb onto the sidewalk before plowing through the cross-hatched fence and hitting a tree in a landscaped area in front of Desert Brook.

"He suffered major blunt trauma to the left side of his body," Mason said.

The tree was about 50 feet from Frank Robinson's apartment, but as Robinson watched Kennewick police officers investigating the accident scene, he said he didn't hear anything when the crash occurred.

"I was on my computer and had a headset on," Robinson said. "I didn't know anything had happened until some neighbors pulled out and came back in."

Those neighbors spotted Fouts and the motorcycle laying in the grassy area littered with the splintered wood fence rails and told apartment manager Dave Jansen, who called 911. Jansen said he didn't hear the accident either.

Mason said Fouts, who was wearing a helmet, was given CPR at the accident scene and was taken to Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco, where he was pronounced dead.

Sorry, Dude.....you ALMOST made it home.

Wow. God bless 'im. It doesn't say if it was his FIRST m/c or not. If so, maybe too much bike for a beginner? I'm not familiar with Buells; are they real powerful or throttle twitchy?

Hell of a note, though.

I'd guess at best they perform like a mid-range sportbike, maybe more torque? The newer ones have real compact frames, short wheelbase.......may be twitchy.

That's what I hoped wouldn't happen to me when I got my first bike, a GT250. I'd never ridden a motorcycle before (I was 15) and had about 10 miles to drive it home with Mom & Dad following me in the car. I only killed it at one stop sign, but I still remember the freaky feeling of driving that "huge" thing home. I'd only driven a 3.5 horse mini-bike prior to that.

I plowed my first bike into the chain link fence of the dealership................couldn't handle the power of a Honda CA95.
Actually, the salesman was giving me lessons in the parking lot.
They wisely 'delivered' the bike to my house.......

ahh the whole first bike goes splat story! i learned to ride in a big medow with nothing to hit, so i have no great tales of first bike splat, but i have put a few dirt bikes down, imho every one ought to ride in a big rather flat area with a bike just big nuff to get them in a lil trouble! for me it was a mighty honda mr 50! but a 5 that lil bike could get me in to plenty of trouble! there was a whole fleet of thoes lil gems at the cabin at one time, they are all gone now

wish i had kept mine! but had to trade it in to grandpa to get my xr70!

Can i tell mine too?

I did it 'my' way on a Honda NSR50. No learning with a teacher, just basic knowledge of shifting gears. So I rev it up, 1st gear everything fine, think about my next step ah yes 2nd gear. I was so proud of myself and wanted to turn around. I was maneuvering like i was a truck or something.. And all this time i had it still in 1st and pulling the clutch AND on a slope. By then i forgot what that left handle was for so i released it..... I can only imagine if someone saw me doing a Superman trick with a wheelying motorcycle. Sadly the ending was a little rough

Got a bruised rib, shoulder out of it's place for an instant and a cool scar on my right leg. But other bikers say i handle my bike very well nowadays, so I guess things worked out okay for me.
