Please don't blame that on Americans... it was a Canadian that started this.  :monkeymoon:

You've got the same bikes we do.  Your windows are just rolled down and no one's shown you how they roll up!

I just started riding and bought the gear before I ever got on the bike. Since I bought the bike in spring the gear is mostly warm weather gear and I will have to get something warmer for fall/winter.

I have an AGV jacket with perforated leather sleeves, shoulders, and back panel. It has mesh on the inner sleeve and chest panel. It also is fully armored in the elbows, shoulders, and back.

I have some full fingers Joe Rocket gloves with finger pads and knuckle armor.

Setup Gran Prix full boots with ankle, heel, and toe plates.

Currently I am using a pair of armoured jeans but do not like them for full protection and am on the hunt for some good textile and leather armored riding pants or overpants.

Full face helmet is always in use.

I would like to also pick up a full leather jacket and pant setup for cooler weather and back road touring. The light stuff is Ok for the commute.

In Texas it can be BRUTAL - If I am just riding around town, I try to wear summer gloves, now a mesh jacket - (previously a ventilated leather jacket) , bluejeans and I ditch the boots in favor of sneaks.  If its a quick run to the 7/11 or Wallyworld I might ditch the jacket too.  But, if I hit the highway I get up early put on all the gear and go.  I have to go up to Ft Worth this week so I will leave at dark thirty AM and ride home after dark.  We are expecting to hit 100 f this week.

I wore tennis shoes a few times, but since they were running shoes, they had a very light mesh uppper.  And it felt like I wasn't wearing anything, so I made the switch to my trusty Doc Martens.

Jeans, or Icon riding pants do fine most of the year.

The usual stuff otherwise (gloves helmet mesh jacket.

My first year on the road I was always in just a tee shirt, jeans and helmet.  After year one and realizing that everyone was out to kill me I made the switch to a Joe Rocket mesh jack, light weight gloves and helmet for every trip.  I get at least two people every year that pull right out in front of me making a left hand turn.  The last thing I need is to go down with nothing more than a tee and jeans on.

I sent this message over to the website where that photo came from:

"Hey there, ran across this pic at your site...

...and some friends of mine and I were rather curious about the present condition of this couple, considering the position of the front wheel. Great summer riding gear too, for the apparent occasion-to-be."

To which they responded:

"The couple are doing fine just a little banged up.  She took the worst of the
crash with her great California summer gear.  This is to show everyone to
always ride safe and with the correct gear because you never know what is going
to happen.  Anyways thanks for the concern and keep checking out our website."

I wonder how photographer felt about being at the "right" place at the "wrong" time?

My guess is that the photog was upset.  Otherwise, you would think that he would have captured more of the "aftermath."

I have a slanted view of this whole safety subject.  Protecting yourself is one thing. Hot or cold, it is a good thing. I personally am a jeans, long sleeve shirt and boots guy in the summer, but how many people ride less safe, the more safety gear they wear.  I am not trying to get all philosophical or change the subject here, but how many of you are honestly more daring all suited up than not.  And then wouldn't you call that throwing safety out the window?

I suppose you could get even more stupid with a sense of false security as such. I recently went down on gravel at ~25mph with full leather armored gear. I can say that I'm really glad I was wearing all that stuff, because I'd probably have a broken elbow where I have a bruised one now, and although it did a great job of salvaging my knee, it didn't really do much for my bruised chinbone and fractured right thumb.

The point of all this is that I went down in relatively soft gravel at ~25mpg, and got pretty phucked up. Imagine flinging off at ~60 in the same outfit. How well do you think you will fare? Granted, your skin may be intact, and your spine MAY hold out, what with my Knox spinal guard and all, but I bet you'll spend good time in a hospital with who knows what broken whatever.

All the leather/kevlar/armor in the world ain't gonna do shit for stupidity.
