Motorcycle crash may lead to charges

Author: Susan K. Lamb, Democrat Managing Editor
Publication Date: 2005-09-14

A local man who police say stole another man's motorcycle may never get a harsher sentence if convicted than he got when he wrecked the motorcycle and his body plowed over the rough asphalt.

According to the Live Oak Police, Tyrone Ivey, 29, was found in the street at the corner of Walker Avenue and Liberty Street just a block away from the roundabout at about 12:41 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, the wrecked motorcycle a few feet away. Ivey was seriously injured from where he crashed and fell on the asphalt. Ivey had obvious other injuries to his body from the crash and lost a lot of blood at the scene from the wounds before the LOPD, Live Oak Fire Department and Suwannee County Fire/Rescue arrived on scene.

Ivey was taken to Shands at Live Oak for treatment

The LOPD report on the incident said that based on the LOPD's investigation, it appeared the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Walker Avenue when the driver attempted to negotiate the curve just before the roundabout but was unable to, resulting in the crash.

The owner of the motorcycle came to the scene after being notified by someone who recognized the motorcycle. The young man, who was not identified, said he himself had gotten hurt on the motorcycle shortly after buying it, as evidenced by a cast on his arm. He told officers the motorcycle had been stolen from a residence located at 1418 Fifth Street about 20 minutes before the crash. The owner said he didn't know the motorcycle had been stolen until he received a call, after which he immediately drove to the scene.

Ivey was not arrested due to the seriousness of his injuries but an arrest affidavit has been forwarded to the Third Circuit State Attorney's Office for auto theft, LOPD said.

I haven't been to Live Oak in a while, but it's a fairly small town.
They may only have  one pair of handcuffs............

   (Not really.....)

Heck, I doubt the idiot is in any shape to make a break for it.
Maybe if he's not 'arrested', the city doesn't have to pay for his medical bills?   Could be a big factor in a rural area.....
Heck, let him undergo whatever expensive surgery he needs, wait until the first day he's actually feeling pretty good, and can sit up in bed and watch MTV or whatever, and stroll in.......and arrest him.
  I'd like that....
