Biker wounded in gun accident
September 15, 2005
A motorcyclist was injured Sunday after a gun in his bag apparently fired accidentally as he looked through the bag for a skull cap, according to a friend who was riding with him.
Rudy Martin, a mechanic from White Rock, appeared to have suffered a wound to his upper torso. Martin and two fellow bikers had just stopped at a BP gas station near Exit 1 off I-26 about 6 p.m. Sunday to refuel on their way home from a Survivors Rally in Cherokee.
Regional One helicopter transported Martin to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday night.

My 'guess' on this....
NC has a helmet law. SC doesn't. Cruiser riders will often stop as soon as they cross into SC from bordering states, and take off helmets.
EXIT 1 is the first exit in SC, as you leave NC.
See, if he had left his helmet on, IT WOULD HAVE PREVENTED AN INJURY!
