The bike I just bought has NRC engine cases installed.
The seller thru in a set of never installed OEM engine guards.

He mentioned that the NRC cases were just as good (if not better) than having the engine guards installed.

True ?

If I install the OEM engine guards, are there issues with them touching down in hard cornering ?

OH - Were there additional bolts that came with the OEM guards? I've got two, naked guards with no additional hardware (i.e., longer bolts.)

I don't know about the touchdown or hardware issues, but IMHO, the NRC covers are better protection than the OEM case guards. The OEM guards are well known for cracking at the welds and more than one of them has bent enough in a minor tip over to break the stock cover it was supposed to protect. They might be good for mounting driving lights or highway pegs too.

NRC covers will stay intact in a high speed slide - that's what they're designed for... to keep oil off the racetrack.

I did a low side during a 4th gear roll on last yr. with the NRC covers on. They did their job abd held up well.No oil spilled and no damage done.(well except on the other side when I hit the grass and flipped to the other side and slid some more) But not the motor anyhow.

Very True. But then again - Nothing will save your subframe if it hits hard enough. Blieve me!

Your right there! Thur. I had my bike to my buddys body shop and anchord the bike down to the floor after I stripped the back. Then we were able to bend the subframe back where its suposed to be.(within the prescribed limits of tolerance and accuracy) So now I have my stock tail back on,complete with scars. Next I'll put the WP shock back on and the small cateye signals back on. I'll save the R1 tail and GSX-R shock for track duty.
