First Wound For My 06 B12S.....
« on: June 03, 2006, 12:16:28 AM »
:crybaby:  :crybaby:
Yes, it had to happen....I was putting her away in the garden shed which is somewhat elevated from the lawn so I have a small ramp to take the bikes in and out on...a matter of 4 inches difference. It was raining and I was pushing the bike up the ramp......the bike slipped on the wet ramp a little and caught me somewhat off-guard....and it ended up leaning against the door of the shed with me on my butt in the wet grass, looking up at the precariously suspended bike. Fortunately the bike stayed put against the hinge side of the door....but the left front turn signal had given its all for the greater good.
Well, off to the dealer to order a new signal....and take a ribbing from the salesman......
Thankfully nothing worse than the signal and a very tiny scuff on the fairing were the results of what could have been a severe tragedy. A brand y lump would probably have fallen on me and crushed the life out of me......
Suzukis are great bikes.....and gentle on their careless owners too.

Dude, welcome to the club.  Those turn signals and levers seem to be destined to break on a regular basis...if Brough and I represent the norm.  (OK, I've fed y'all a line there...)

I recommend the OEM case guards if ya haven't picked them up yet.

I replaced my turn signal but haven't changed the brake lever yet after a similar incident with my neighbors dog on the gravel drive way. Just snapped the end peice off the brake so it stays for a while as is.

Glad that was all that was damaged!   :bigok:

Why not use this as an opportunity to go with minis or flushmounts?

After Pete's experience with the OEM caseguards, I can NOT recommend them.

Yeah, I had a bad experience with OEM case gaurds myself.  For one, they hit the pavement before the footpegs.  Two, when I removed the gaurds I saw that one of the bolts was broke in half.  Those case gaurds are dangerous in my opinion.  I tossed mine.  A hundred bucks completely wasted.

They're also prone to crack at the welds... and for those that don't remember/know, Pete's guards bent in a tip-over and broke the engine covers they were supposed to protect.

Wow!  Too bad about the bike, man, but it really HAS to happen.  And the good thing is after that first time, the next scratches are nothing...

The weird thing I've noticed and you guys talked about is how the levers snap off just near the end where they are hollowed out.  Seems to me if they were solid all the way down, they might make it through these little bumps.

But I suppose they're designed to snap off there instead of doing more damage?  ie. cables?

I stand by my recommendation.  I sent the bike spinning on its side down the street and the case guard and bar end weight were the only things damaged...ground down quite a lot of but everything was fine.

Thanks for the words of sympathy, gents. The first wound seems to hurt the worst.....

I've thought about that, PitterB4, if I can find some that catch my eye. We'll see.....
The whole case guard thing is another issue I'm torn about. I think I may split the difference and buy Givi guards instead of the stockers. Hopefully Givi guards have solid welds, etc.....but I am/am convinced that a guy should have something on there.....guards are usually cheaper than cases/labour/annoyance/downtime/etc......

There's always sliders...

Mine is top row, second from the left.  I did a little experiment in my garage today and determined that the sliders and the bar end weights DO keep the plastics and engine case off the ground.  I may stick with 'em.  They do look a bit more modern, I guess, than bars.
