I don't know if Suzuki ever meant for them to stand for anything.  Back when the GS series first launched, Suzuki's 2-stroke streret bikes were called GT's, which is synonimous with Grand Touring in motorized circles, so the GS, for Grand Sport, makes sense as a following designator for their new breed of 4-strokes... so perhaps the "F" means Four?

OK.  gs =street bike and f means really four when you talk about bandit(gsf)

That's pretty logical Paul . Like Honda with their first four in lines. I have a 1975 CB400F and the `F' definitely indicates 4 pots  :bigok:

I still think your OK Paul...the GS500 is still a GS, not a GSF... on the GS500F, I think the F stands for "forever", like in the last time it was ever significantly upgraded.  :trustme:

There lies not  the proplem,because F is after 500. Example  gsx 750 and gsx 750f.You know what f means now.
