Does anyone have recomendations for hard luggage for an 01' 1200S that both looks good and functions well. I like the way the Corbin Beetlebags look, but they are very $$$ and the lid dimensions are on the small side. If you have pictures showing the side and rear profile that would be  great :thanks:

Check out GIVI at <www.giviusa.com>.  They offer mounts that will accept most of their bags.  

On the Bandit the mounts result in a high position for the bags.  I had a problem getting my foot over the bags due to that position so ultimately went with their 21 liter bags to minimize height.

However I have already checked out their website and they don't provide images for the 1200 and when I click on the one for the 600 all I get is a box with a red x in it. That is why I am asking for some recomendations and pics from you guys.

I JUST FOUND A LINK IN THE "TOURING SECTION" AND I WAS ABLE TO GET AN IDEA ON HOW THE GIVIS WOULD LOOK. THE E21 LOOK VISUALLY BETTER THAN THE LARGER BAGS.

CAN YOU CARRY ENOUGH FOR A 3 - 4 DAY RIDE?

I have 3 36 Litre Givis with Givi mounts which I have toured with a little. As I see it, they are more than adequate for luggage, (they detach and become suitcases for a motel, even with a long hall). The detraction is that even these 36'ers make my 98 1200S look a bit large in the ass. Regardless, they are absolutely waterproof, theft proof and you'll love the stuff you can finally take needed for more than 1 nite out/heat-rain variables. I have yet to have a passenger back there, but some others say it works... don't know.

I've suffered throught crappy packability setups ie. WATER LEAKS, not enough room, theftable soft bags that got grit under 'em and sand papered the paint finish enough to bring out your best curses.
Go for More room in your bags, NOT less. You'll never regret it. :beers:

I have an E460 trunk with E21 saddlebags and more recently bought some E36s. With a decent size trunk and a tank bag, the E21s offer plenty of room for a week long tour including camping gear or two-up touring without camping gear if you pack light. I bought the larger cases to try two-up camping, but really appreciated the extra room for solo travel.

I really love the convenience of hard bags for both touring and daily commuting and errand running. As stated above, they are truly waterproof, but I wouldn't call them theft proof. They're more like a theft deterent. I keep valuables locked in mine all the time, but if someone really wanted to get in, they could.

If you do decide to go the GiVi route, I would recommend going with the unpainted cases as they're both cheaper and more resistant to boot scuffs. Also, if you want to go with the larger side cases you will need to either lower your exhaust (at least if you have an aftermarket can), shield your cases from the exhaust gases or extend your exhaust outlet or any combination thereof. If you don't, you will burn a hole in your side case. (I know for sure this is a problem with an aftermarket can, but not sure how much of a problem it is with the stock exhaust.) With the E21s, it's not really an issue as they are shorter front to back and sit higher.

Well said, GT Bandit. They aren't totally theft proof, but anyone stealing them would have to have good reason, ie. They KNOW you have something worthwhile in there. I believe most attempts to open these bags would destroy them, so they would be stolen for their own value.

I always assumed slip on exhausts are the same as geometry as stock as mine appears to be. How the hell do you lower any of them? I assume you would need to heat and bend the exhaust pipe but wouldn't that discolour and distrort. I guess you would need to work out new mount(s) as well. It always struck me as these pipes were much higher in the back than they need to be for cornering. The ST 1300 and FJR1300 pipes appear lower and this alows lower bags mounts and the magic words, Lower Center Of Gravity. It is this that allows Gold Wing owners to avoid falling over at every stop light, (looks bad... there are always oodles of slack jawer gawkers)

Mike, to lower the exhaust, you simply need to use a longer hanger bracket. Holeshot sells one for it's exhaust. There's enough play in the header/mid-pipe joint and the angle(s) of adjustment of the mid-pipe to make this work.

Actually, you can force open the cases without doing any permanent damage to them. I won't go into any details here, but PM me if you want to know how. But, your right. Most people would have to know whats inside the cases to want to even try to open them, especially if the bikes parked in a public place.

Manny, thanks for posting the pics. How well does the Givi silver match the bike? Right now that is the only thing holding me back from ordering a set is deciding between the silver painted case lid or going with the non-painted black :motorsmile:

I have the same year/color bike and REALLY like the way your setup looks! Can you give us any part numbers ? I went to the AZ site and looks like it would take awhile to sort all of the part nunbers out.  :shock:

I think it was as close as you can get.  Can't say I ever thought the paint was slightly off, and I have a very keen eye for paint.  Get them painted from Givi, DO NOT try to DIY.  You'll never get the paint smooth over the dimpled black plastic.
The Givi paint was excellent quality and held up to a lot of use.  Well worth the slight upcharge.

I don't know part numbers.
It's a Givi wingrack.   The topbox is the E46 and the side bags are E360.  I also had the optional backrest on the top box.  
The bags seal air tight (literally) and fit TWO full face helmets!
Also easy to remove and great for riding two-up since the side bags' handles act as grips for the passanger.  The wife was a very big fan.

Well worth the $$
