Help with intake manifolds, pipes, boots. Torque needed!
« on: January 21, 2015, 01:45:54 PM »
Hello everyone.  I have a mk1 bandit 1200.  I have the Haynes and suzuki manual.  Neither manual gives me the torque specs for the velocity stacks, intake manifolds, intake boots, intake pipes, whatever you could call them, I'm just listing so anyone who searches exhaustively like I have with no result might find the info.  Any measurement works, NM, ft/lbs, in/lbs.  I would hate to strip out the stinking aluminum and have to helicoil it like I had to do putting the valve cover back on (last time I let someone else work on my stuff).  Thanks for any help :)

Bump, or whatever.  Please help, I live in a dorm 160 miles from my dad's house where the bike is, I have to make a special trip to work on it, hopefully as soon a possible.  I'll be checking to see if anyone knows on here everyday till someone posts anything.  I will try other forums, but am loosing hope.  If no one says anything I'll try 6 ft/lbs, that's less that the oil lines are torqued, I just hope it'll be enough.  Thanks.

I think intake manifold is what you call them. Velocity stacks go on the otherside of the carbs. I do t know the torgue i checked the manual i have, it didnt seem to list it, 6lbs sounds safe, if you are worried about that being tight enough use some blue locktight to keep it tight.

One thing i learned from intake manifolds, is that you want to make sure to use, gasket sealer, either high temp or gas safe sealer on both sides of the intake manifolds, to make sure there are no air leaks to throw off the fuel mixture, this is important for the carb tuinng to work.
