I'm Baaaaaack........
« on: March 22, 2006, 06:25:11 PM »
looks like im back onto a bandit again.  Going on sunday to pick up a 1999 Suzuki Bandit 600S w/ 15k miles.  Attached a few photos.  Stock  save for holeshot exhaust and jet kit.   I'm looking for either a tinted front screen (used is ok) or someone who would wnat to trade their naked set up for the fairing/screen combo.

Any recommendations on tires to go buy for the 600 size.  Will need some in about 6 months it sounds like.  Ill post up new pictures in my driveway on sunday :-D  hers the ones ive been emailed:

:congrats:  to you and the bike.
Looks like it could use a little love, and some bar ends.
The seat doesn't look right too me for some reason.
Looks like stock sprocket and chain.
Aftermarket pegs on back and looks like P.A.I.R. has been removed.
Doesn't look like it has a plate     be careful.

I like the color.  Looks like you have a 2nd Gen seat.  Mine came with a Corbin and I bought a stock seat, 2G, and it has the "gap".  Just the right mods, exhaust and the jet kit.  For tire size, go 120/70 up front and 160/60 on the rear.  What type of riding you do determines what type of tire.  Racing around town? Go sticky.  If you get out for longer rides and will spend time on the hiways, go with a sport touring model.  Have fun, BTW, if the suspension is stock I'd at least change out the fork oil.

The seat just looks like it's sitting on the bike and it's in a spot just aft of where it needs to be to latch. If you were trying to put a 2G seat on a 1G, it would look worse than that.

Only CA models got PAIR on the 1G's - and even that may be only certain years.

Other than needing a good bath, it looks in pretty good shape in those pics.

Should you decide to convert to a naked, all you need is a headlight and brackets. You can use GS500, SV650, B4 or who knows what else... pretty common stuff. The fork tubes are 41mm if you want to go with an aftermarket headlight bracket. You can also run a dual light setup from a Buell pretty easily.

ok new to the 600s.  whats a PAIR?

Already got a line on some shinko sport touring radials.  I've got more pciture than i posed here but for hte most part all the bike looks to need is a good wash and wax which it will be getting tommarrow.  I asked abotu the seat as well.  It just wasnt latched fully.

PAIR is a Suzuki acronym for air injection. A system used to reduce emissions by introducting cold air from the air box into the exhaust.

If yo have PAIR, there'd be 4 little tubes, connected to the head just below each header pipe. These tubes would route to a valve that is mounted just above the valve cover and another line from there to the airbox.

PAIR doesn't effect performance any, but it does make valve adjustments a little more difficult since its valve & tubing are in the way.

you guys were right it is a 2g seat.  In search of a 1g (any style) for cheap if possible as im on a college kid budget :thanks:

Also having some trouble starting the bike (now it wont even start).  When I first test rode the bike it started right up.  And when i got it home.  I washed it by hand this afternoon and cleaned and lubed the chain.  Now the bike wont start.  Cranks over with plenty of power (eventually had to hook up to my truck battery, with the truck off of course) but no luck getting it to start.  Not even a sputter.   Checked the CDI unit and it never even got wet.   Is there a RR on this bike? if so where at? (dark outside and i have no flash light).   Any other thoughts....this is frustrating i need to ride!

Had a thought:  Could it be the startner nut?  The starter is cranking fine but seems like it might catdch and hten not catch.  Where is this nut at and how hard to get to?   Starter sounds likes its jsut spinning in place and not catching the motor.  Or no spark...this sucks :duh:

The starter clutch nut would be what you're thinking of. It's behind the starter clutch cover, which is the cover on the left end of the crank.
IE; the broken cover in this pic:

Download a copy of the service manual from the members section for the torque specs... plus, you'll want a copy anyway, right?

well would the starter nut be the problem if im feeling the exhaust and i feel compression coming outta the exhaust...not sure how to describe it but it feel slike its turning over the motor.   Hooked up to the truck again this morning and it just simply wont catch.   Carbs have gas and no pinched gas lines.   My guess is a spark issue.  I've never had to change plugs on these bikes before or even check them.   Any tricks for getting to them they look like a PITA and what socket do you use?  Sorry for the newb questions but im still kinda new to working on bikes.

You'd know if the starter clutch wasn't working... the starter will turn real fast. If you're feeling the pulses of compression in the exhaust, it's working.

Did you get the toolkit with the bike? There's a plug wrench in that.

The plugs may be able to be pulled without pulling the tank off, but it is so much easier with it off, it's worth the extra steps - to me anyway.
