I Just Got Back From My Ride & I'm Sorry......
« on: May 22, 2006, 09:29:14 PM »
for thinking I'd need an Akrapovic can on my B12. The stock can sounds better and better the more miles it gets on it. With about 250 miles or so, it's getting a nice boomy Akrapovic-like sound to it, especially at and just off idle...at least to my ears. So maybe the Canadian DOT homologation guys were having an exceptionally nice day when they let this exhaust arrangement through (to lift a line from the guys in BIKE magazine).        :beers:
One thing that WILL change is the rider's portion of the seat. Sitting on that sucker is like riding an ironing board. My @ss-bones feel everything. I'm going to try it with the shock preload on the lowest position and if that doesn't do it, the seat is off to the upholstery gal pronto.
The windshield and the seat are big time priorities. If your butt's comfortable and you're not being wind-blasted off the seat, you can pretty much put up with anything....except for the, ughhhh, white stuff. But let's not think about that right now....
It's the shank of the riding season. Let freedom RING !!!! Get out there and RIDE !!!

Rick, if you do searches on seat, gel seat, Sargent, Corbin, etc., you'll find that the Bandit seat is a commonly disdained piece of "hardware".

Rick - I think we're about the same size from your photo.  I'm not sure what to do about the seat either.  Sometimes, I think it's not so much the padding as the width.  I have a seat guy half an hour away who will do ANYTHING  for $75 but I have to decide what it is I want.

You could take the driver's portion and widen it by an inch on either side and make it 1.5 inches higher and I think nobody would really notice.  It would kinda flow into the back seat a bit better then??

I'm in contact with a company from quebec that makes a pretty extended windshield for the newer 650/1200.  If you're interested I could forward to you.  Theyrun $200 US, I think or a little more.

Best of luck with the new bike!

Jim:
All info gratefully accepted.
I think if the seat gets redone with the same shape of foam but the next less dense grade it'll work out okay. If not, then I keep going down in density until it feels right. What it REALLY needs is a piece of latex seat foam like they
originally installed in the Kwakker H2 seats back in the day instead of all this new polypropylene closed cell stuff. The PP is usually very dense and is great if you weigh 230-250#.......but that's not me......or you, I take it.
If the massive vibrations/ancient suspension of the H2 doesn't bug me with a latex seat then the latex would be positively luxurious on the B12S, fer shure.
Let me know about the windshield when you find out about it. something
with a 2" or 3"  double-bubble type edge would be great.
I need to do some investigating into this latex seat foam.....although I do have that H2 foam in the basement that's there's not enough left of to do an H2 seat....but there MIGHT be enough to do the Bandit seat. Hmmmm......
Wouldn't that be a kicker !!!     Sorry about your delayed season down there. The sun WILL shine....eventually....right ??!!??

DA: I didn't get a PM from you yet re the pic posting thing. Please send/resend. Thanks.
