Insulted by a prospective buyer ...
« on: October 11, 2005, 04:13:42 PM »
I just got through talking to a guy who claims he's gonna buy my GS450TX.  He said he liked it, even though it was a little "girly".

Here it is...

I have folks tell me it's pretty, or a cool old bike, or sweet just a couple of days ago, but never actually has it been called "girly"!  I thought I had it done up cool with original '80's parts & accessories.  Does this mean I'm  gay?

More importantly, do I take his money if he shows up?  Or beat the holy cr@p out of him?!

If he's paying you a decent price....sell it to him.

After the check clears, find out where he parks the bike at night.
Go to Walmart, and buy a set of pink and white  handlebar streamers like you see on girls bicycles.  If they have a wicker basket with flowers, that's cool too.
Place the above items on the 'girly bike' late at night so he'll find them in the morning.
Any 'Barbie' stickers you can find are cool, also.

I agree with Pete.  You might as well take his money and then make him look stupid!  Maybe you can stick a gay pride bumper sticker on it.
Wait for me!!

Maybe you could sell him a shirt with the bike that says:

"If you can read this my boyfriend fell off"

It just shows how stupid about bike stuff we've become in the US, even 'experienced' riders.
That 450 is probably a decent starter bike, and a great commuter.
Bikes have become strictly toys and status symbols, (Or Phallic appendages!) instead of TRANSPORTATION!!!!!

My 400 does 0-60 faster than my car.

In fact, it's faster than most cars, 0-60.

It also gets good gas mileage and is cheap (err... until it breaks) to drive!

Oh, and I'm getting it back sometime before Biketoberfest.

If you can read this, my girlfriend suddenly realized she was riding pillion on a 'girly bike', and she would never be able to 'turn me straight', and she JUMPED!

That was my 1st street bike but mine had the MANLY mag wheels, not the SISSY spoked wheels!  Just playing! Don't give an idiot that means nothing to you the power to affect your life. Just cash the check and forget about him.

If he wants to buy it, but thinks it's girly, what does that say about him? Take his money and don't worry about it.

Seriously, take his money.  Who cares what he thinks, his money is still green.  Hell, after he paid me, I'd throw in a rainbow sticker and tell him to put it on his license plate.  Say "Happy hunting big guy !" and blow him a kiss with a limp wristed wave as he rode away.

Really, man who cares what he thinks. Let him think you're a martian if it sells the bike for a good price.

I heard somewhere that if the old family sedan had the power to weight ratio of a motorcycle it would have to pump out nearly 2000hp.  Image the possibilities...

that's a new way of negotiating for a lower price. I've heard people point out chips in the paint, wear on tires, etc, but never heard of someone trying to get a "girly" discount.
