Licence Restriction question
« on: June 29, 2006, 08:46:17 PM »
Hello my Bandit Friens.
I have a stupid question, but any way. Im on my provicional licence and i think the restriction is 125cc.But I really want to buy B250 or B4. Will i be allowed to drive one of this after i pass my driving test and is there any more tests i need to do for bikes or can i jusy go ahead and drive it? My Insurance company sais that they have no probs insuring me now. Or may be i can restrict it some how. Im really lost as the sumer is nearly gone...
I rang garda station, and i dont think they have a clue. Motor taxation office wasnt much help eather for some reson. At the moment driving a scooter. My driving test coming up in bout 3 month but i cant wait. By the way i live in Ireland, Limerick.
Thank and sorry for the silly question.

ah a fella Irish man.
First of all it depends on which provisional license you have.
I dont have my license beside me now but I do know that one of the provisionals you get, you can only go upto 125cc, and then if your over 18 you can get another provisional that leaves you use any bike upto 33bhp. That includes gixxer's bandit 600 etc.

I passed me test a while back and still have to keep the restriction on for the first two years of my full license.

If you are going to get the provisional 250 license as we call it. you can get a bandit 600 restricted to 33bhp and get insured on it , its the same group as the cbr 250. Only thing is. that the insurance companies here, only except factory restricted bikes.

Personally I have the Bandit 600 unrestricted. Im supposed to have it restricted for another 15 months but the restriction kinda fell outta my bandit.

If you want the bandit 600 restricted you will have to get a 02 or newer. or the insurance company wont insure you.

not to many bandit 4's in ireland so it would be easier to find a bandit 6. and funny thing is. since bandit 4 dont actually come factory restricted it would be cheaper to get the bandit 6 for insurance purposes. I think bandit 4 is group 6.

Being in Limerick the insurance shouldnt be to much but that depends on your age.

Bandit 600 factory restricted you can pick up a 02 one for about 4000-4500 just keep an eye out for them.

best of luck mate anyways, and if you wanna chat add me on MSN: seanmcdonagh_2@hotmail.com and ill show you in the right direction.

also Im sure the lads on this site wont mind but biker.ie is an irish site and they have some bandits for sale. check it out.  :beers:  :beers:

If you have A1 provisional you can only ride upto 125cc.
If you have the A provisional you can only drive upto 33bhp.

If you have A1 and want to get A, you will need to do the theory test.

there is a bandit 250 for sale HERE for 1800.

Ok just noticed your already after finding that one. lol.

Dont worry you'll have one soon mate.
You will still have to do the test for the bike even if you pass the B license. tis some balls. That bike ya picked out on the other site is a nice one mate. not many bandit 250's around these days mate. did ya get a quote for it???

depends on where ya apply for the test. some places you wait for about a year. Here in waterford I only had to wait 6 weeks.
You can apply for it now. it dont matter that you doing the B test already. Put in for it as quickly as possible. at least if you pass it early on you wont have as many bad habits. Make sure to get some lessons on it though. I'm driving a few years now and still like to get the odd lesson to top up me skills.

Probably pretty cheap... it seems they "fall out" of a lot of lads' bikes.
