PINKS

I just saw a race on Speed channel between a 2002 VROD and a 1983 GS1100G. It was a best of three race on a 1/4 mile strip, for pink slips. The first 2 passes were straight up, with the Harley winning the first by just a little. The GS got off to a slow start and came on strong at the end. The second pass had the GS win by about a bike length and pulling away. After the Harley guy was blaming the temperature and a hot clutch for the loss, Immagine that from an air cooled engine. In order to get him to race a third time, they had to give him time to cool down and he also got a bike length head start. He was still whining about the heat and his clutch at the start. On this pass the VROD got a great start, the gs wheelied and he had to back off to get it down. The VROD led for nearly all the race due to the good holeshot and the staggered start. At the end theGS raced passed and one by a length once again. The Vrod guy was out of excuses and also out one very expensive bling monster. I was happy to be the only Suzuki Rider in a group of HARLEY posers, My bike was the only one in the parking lot, but there was a lot of HD gear walking around the bar.

I know you're fairly new, but that episode is a repeat... seems every time it airs we get a  new thread.

Here's the other two threads on that show:

The Busa battle that followed that episode was entertaining too...  550 hp turbocharged but neither one was willing to risk their own bike.

I'd written a post a while back on this.  Lots of Vrod bashing.  I had to laugh again as a few issues ago in Cycle World they had an article on a VROD drag bike you can buy and race right out of the box.  It has tons of mods and runs around $33k to buy.  ETs? Wow, its getting into the nines in the 1/4, the article's author is all pumped.   Hmmm, I can go down to the Suz dealer and for around $11k get a box stock 'Busa and run those times.  I think the '06 Gixxer 1000 is even faster this year, I saw some ETs around 9.7.

What's worse is the V-Rod guy was a pro rider. He made it go as fast as humanly possible. When we went to the V-Rod forums they were bashing him and shit. Hello???? He's a pro rider, even the Suzuki guy said that was what really worried him as he made the piece of shit go as fast as it did. I wish they posted the times/speeds to the viewers not the riders.

Don't know about the second season but the first season no one got any times the Pinks show host had a guy at the end of the track he was the "trap" and he would radio back telling who won by how much.  If you actually watch it it is a pretty low budget show I think they don't use the tree and such since that would cost extra money.

I used to own a GSX1100G befor I bought the Bandit. Was heavy and long, but it ran pretty good.Sounded like a sewing machine on steroids.
Hoping to take a ride down deals gap w/a couple buddys and make it to the Bandit rally. 1 guy has a Harley and another a Moto Guzi,a 3rd rider has a V-rod. They were telling me how he'd keep up w/me. I don't have to say anything, just say OK. I'll even let him think he can for awhile. Then I'll let my bike to my talking.     Dan

Wow, Dan, I thought I was the only one to do that progression!  I had a '92 11G and couldn't wait for Suzuki's decision in '97....I bought my '96 B12 in Toronto and drove it back to ATL.  Never looked back.  Sold the 11G to a ditch-doctor (EMT) and we both felt like we got over.   Good times ever since. :beers:
