For those of you who hadn't heard...

Mobil 1 is now available at Wallyworld in 10w30 & 5w30 formulas WITHOUT friction modifiers. So those of you who are worried about clutch slippage with F/M synthetic... you can sleep easier now.

The 5 qt. jug is $24.00

It's also available at other places in 1 qt. bottles in the 10w40 formula for $3.00 less per quart than the "motorcycle specific" formula.

I HIGHLY recommend Mobil 1 in a Bandit (1200). My bike warms up faster, shifts way better, doesn't tick on cool down, and idles smoother since I changed from Valvoline 10w40 Motorcyle-specific oil to Mobil 1.

And how do you know this (e.g. no friction modifiers in these lower weight oils)?

It is says "energy conserving" on the circular label, it has friction modifiers. In fact, I think its a fed requirement for low weight oils like these to have the stuff. Having firction modifiers, however, might not be a bad thing for a bandit clutch. It really depends who you are talking too. I know a few guys that use Mobil 1 5W30 in their bandits and have had no clutch issues. These are well respected bandit owners on the "other" bandit board. This particular oil has friction modifiers.

Dale Walker recommends 15W50 Mobil 1 and I like the higher viscosity for the hot climate here in TX.

Yeah, you need at least 10-40
5-30 if you ride in winter.

For an air/oil cooled lump, don't mess too much with thin oil.

I ran regular Mobil-1 for 10K miles with no issues what so ever. Then switched to Shell Rotella T synth 5-40 (also at wallyworld). 1/2 the price of M-1 and felt the same.

It does not list 'Energy Conserving' in the circular label. That's how.

Yes, many people do use Mobil 1 oil with E/C friction modifiers without any problem... but it's not recommended.

I was also using M1 15w50.... Until now. From now on in I'm going to use the new 10w40. If there's a problem, I'll post it up here.

I'm going to try the Mobil 1 Stuck & SUV oil, it's 5W-40 and carries the highest ratings for diesel and gasoline engines, CI-4 and SL.

It should be about the same as Shell Rotella T synthetic except that it's a full synthetic not a type 3 oil. The TBN is listed in the Mobil 1 web site as 12 which should ellow long drain intervals -- a match for my touring style which gets me home only about every 6-8 K miles.

You can check it out at the Mobil 1 web site <www.mobil1.com> and once there click om Mobil 1 oil, then Truck and SUV oil.

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5w40 was my choice before... but an oil engineer told me that it could shear too quick with a high RPM engine. I'd go with the new 10w40 Extended Service. (10w40 is the recommended weight, anyway.)
