Man Convicted In 150 mph Motorcycle Speeding
July 8 (BCN) — A motorcyclist who admitted leading California Highway Patrol officers on a 150-mph chase down Interstate Highway 280 was convicted by a San Mateo County Superior Court jury today of felony evading.
Jurors deliberated for about three and one-half hours before convicting David Luis Parshall, 21, who claimed that he is an expert motorcyclist and no threat on the road.
"We're pleased with the verdict," said prosecutor Aaron Fitzgerald.
According to the prosecution, Parshall was clocked speeding on U.S. Highway 101 just north of the Interstate Highway 380 interchange at 100 mph.
Parshall failed to pull over and fled onto I-280 south at speeds up to 150 mph. Although officers were unable to stop Parshall, they obtained a license plate number and tracked down the registered owner of the motorcycle, Parshall's friend, who led them to Parshall.
Testifying on his own behalf during trial, in addition to claiming he was maneuvering safely, Parshall stated that due to his helmet, he did not hear police sirens and did not see the emergency lights.
Parshall faces a sentence ranging from six months to three years in prison, Fitzgerald said. He will be sentenced on Aug. 26 at 8:30 a.m.
