In a couple of weeks I am going on a 600 mile trip and will be stopping overnight at a motel. I was wondering what kinda security I can do to prevent my bike from being stolen? Any suggestions or advise on the subject?

Chain and padlock, disc lock, alarm/imobiliser take your pick or if you can't get any of them get a ground floor motel room and park it in your room with you, i'm not joking  iv'e seen it done.

I use a disk lock and lock one end of a bright orange thin spiral kryptonite cable lock in the disk lock, put the other on the throttle. The cable on the throttle serves to remind me that the bike is locked up and is a clear visual clue to the bike theif idiots that there are probably easier ones to steal nearby.

I figure if someone really wants to steal it they will. This is kinda like the story about two guys running away from a chasing bear, they don't have to be faster than the bear, just one guy faster than the other.

Both the disk lock and the cable fit easily under the seat and go with me everywhere. The cable is also handy if you want a quick, temporary way to secure a few things for a quick jaunt away from the bike.

Fortunately, Bandits are not normally high on a thief's list of bikes to steal. I haven't taken any special precautions when on the road, besides parking it as close to my room as possible. A couple of times I've parked it on the lest visible side of a Harley... they're more likely to be stolen than a Bandit.

Most hotel/motels I've stayed at have a 24hr desk. I just usually ask if I can park my bike right in front of the window/office. Bikes don't take much room and the staff usually complies.
Then just lock up as usual and you're set for the night.
I usually leave a couple extra bucks on the night stand with a thank you, it's a small gesture for a bit of piece of mind.

I work at a resort/hotel and park my bike only in the best spots for that special someone to take it or screw with it, and in the last five years the only thing thats happined is someone pissed all over the whole bike, didn't miss a spot. I wasn't so happy about that.
Alot of other bikes and other things do get taken but no one wants my bandit.

They charge £199, or if your me free (well he is my mate).
