Wind Protection & stuff
« on: September 26, 2007, 11:09:54 AM »
Hi Gang!

My wife is looking at a 07 Bandit 650 as her next bike. I would like to get opinions on wind protection as far the upper fairing and windshield goes. Also how is the wind on the lower torso and legs?. Everything I know about the bike seems to be positive. Any other input on the pro's / con's of this bike would also be appreciated. She is tall and she will be able to handle the bike so that is no concern. Is the fuel injection system working well? How about ABS opinions?

Thanks again

Kelly

You didn't say where you live. In the USA there are no Bandit 650 models. In Canada, you can get the only the S model 650 and you can get it with or without ABS. In the UK, you can get both the naked and S model 650's, but the naked only comes w/o ABS and the S model only comes with ABS.

How tall is tall?
I'm 5'8" on a 2006 650, and while I notice wind, it's not a real nuisance unless I'm tooling along at 120 kmh and facing constant 30-40 kmh crosswinds.

There's no lower fairing, but I've always got my legs tucked in so it never bothers me. My helmet does get some wind battering off the top fairing, but it's not an excessive amount -- certainly not bad enough that I've thought twice about getting a different screen.

Can't tell you about Fuel Injection since I've got the last version with carbs... but I've got the ABS and I like 'em. If you want to know how they work, check out the UK Suzuki site for extras.. they've got a bunch of videos of ABS in action.

Sorta, kinda, in a way, but not quite.
The '08 GSX650F is a Bandit 650 with a GSXR inspired fairing, but doesn't carry the Bandit name.
I wonder if it'll carry on the Bandit tradition of leading a big-bore version by a year? Think there'll be a '09 GSX1250F?
(The exception being the 650 & 1250 Bandits came out in water-cooled versions the same year.)

The GSX650F is replacing the 600 Katana. It does have the same engine as the 650 Bandit, just like the first and second generation 600 Katana's had the same engine as the 600 bandit. The Katana (other than the power plant) is a completely differant bike than the Bandit.

Better take a closer look at the new '08 GSX650F.
(FWIW, Suzuki isn't calling this one a Katana.)

Click on the Suzuki home page, then click on the big picture to take you to the '08 model Flash pages and check out the GSX650F. Also, check out the GSX650F pages in the non-flash part of the site.

After looking real close, I think you'll agree, the new GSX650F is a Bandit 650 with a new full fairing (and no adjustable two piece seat).

I think you are correct. I never took a close look at the bike before this. I wonder if we could replce the fairing on the Bandit with the one from the GSX650F.

I still think the 650F is a replacement for the Katana even though it shares so much from the Bandit. For instance the Bandit is a GSF and the Katana was a GSX.
