No Love From Fellow Banditos
« on: June 13, 2008, 01:36:47 AM »
What gives?

I seldom see another Bandit on the road but today I was passed by not one, but two while on my ride home from work. First a silver 1200s and then a black 600 and neither of these guys gave me a wave.

My heart was broken, not too mention feeling like an doofus as I waved to two guys who just ignored me.

So, if you were on the 5 north in Burbank today I am giving you this chance to make up for it. Drop me a line and say hello.

this is actually typical, lol the only other bandit I've seen on the road didn't wave back either. The problem I have is that since mine has never had the full front fairing I don't actually recognize it very well from the front. And of course they can't conceivably recognize me that way either.
some people also...well they just don't wave. But maybe they were in such  :yikes: shock to see another bandit, they had to keep both hands on the bars.

Well, I can attest that sometimes you're concentrating on what some driver in your path is doing or looking like they want to do that you just don't see the folks on the other side.  Also when I'm on the interstate its easy to not see an oncoming bike until they're right on you, and you wave, but possibly too late for them to notice. :duh:

Generally I've not had anyone just blow me off unless they were on a cruiser.  I had some guys on what looked like Harleys give me the cold shoulder.  I knew this because I was not far behind another bike that they waved at, and then just looked at me and turned their heads. :annoy:  Oh well.  I guess they were jealous because my B1250 could leave them longing for more cylinders.

I don't know how it is in SoCal, but I find bikers don't wave a lot on I-5 around here, especially in the metro areas.  Probably for the reasons stated.  Once out of the city and riding the backroads & rural highways, almost everyone will wave.

Us canadians must be too nice -- pretty much everyone waves... sport bikes, cafe racers, harleys, even BWMs... crazy. If someone waves and I cant wave back I try to at least nod. That being said, I don't need a box of tissues if someone doesnt wave...

My parents live in a small town on the east coast and EVERYONE (not just bikes) waves at EVERYONE (walking, driving, sitting, etc, even if they don't know you). Being a big city boy it totally freaks me out.

For the record, these fellow riders where traveling with me, not against me. Which is to say in the same direction on the same side of the freeway.

I completely understanding NOT getting the hi sign from riders on the other side of the freeway, especially at high speeds. Sun, wind, speed, traffic... all these things are reason enough to keep both hands on the bar.

But to be passed by fellow Banditos and not get a wave was kind of shitty.

I've had sporters wave out blowing a turn at high speeds. Come to think of it, I've done that myself.  :bandit:

FWIW - I've been seeing quite a few Bandits (all 3 generations) on the road lately.  If anyone here is traveling Rt1 in Southern Chester County, PA or Cecil or Harford Co, MD, post up.

On waving...  there's a guy that works in my little hick town that has an older Ninja 250 or 500.  He works at the local mom-and-pop computer repair store, I think.  He commutes the opposite direction as me so I end up passing him frequently.  Ususally if someone waves, you get the cool, below-the-bars wave, right?  This guy is SOOOOO excited to see me every day that I get a full, over the head wave.  Every time he does it, I can picture him having this gigantic grin on his face as he does it.  Gives me a chuckle every time.

Interesting enough, When I started riding (which is only 1 yrs ago !), I start to notice fellow riders on the road do tend to look at east other and nod. Often evnough, riders who at the front of the traffic tend to strikes up some sort of conversation while waiting for lights......

I do nod to people as well, but abit afraid of chat wiht other riders, sicne my 1st Gen B250 so needed much attention to (or parts), it is not a pretty sight .............

Well, its a good thing I wear a full face, 'cause I'm grinning just ridding, much less waving.  I'm also seeing a lot more bikes on the road these days, which is good. Of course, it may be like innercent in that since I've starting ridding I just notice them more.

I had a sport bike guy not wave this morning, which is odd.  Generally they always do, due to the fact that I'm on a S model.  I think he was preoccupied in the other direction, and may have seen me late.

I just do not get why everyone on a bike think they need to wave at each other.  I do not drive down the road in my car waving at everyone else in their car.  I mean I ride a bike because I like to be alone and not have all the distractions that come with a car.  What really gets me is the fact that when I am on my way to work early in the morning there are very few bikes out, because all of the posers have theirs parked in the garage, and these people are like me they don't care about me riding to work either.  Go out on a weekend and every weekend warrior is out waving to all that ride by.  Stop the waving

Silver Shadow - It was YOU wasn't it?

I see the point you are making and agree to a certain extent but I still like the commraderie it demonstrates.

Tell you what, next time we pass each other on the road we won't wave and that I'll know it's you and you will know it's me. It'll be kind of like a secret handshake that only you and I know about. The no wave wave.
