First ride since my fall!
« on: October 19, 2005, 12:55:19 AM »
I got to take a friend's XR650 dual sport for a spin today, and I have to say even with knobbies on it, it still railed. The thing only stepped out once on me and it was on cold tires and late braking. It's a 94 or 95 model and had 1815 miles on it, when I brought it back it had 1860 on it  Only bad thing of the day was going down a dirt road that was freshly graded and loose, front end tucked, I dropped a leg, leg caught, felt like it ripped it off. That wouldn't be that bad but it was the leg I messed up in my wreck, but hell, I was riding who gives a shit :beers:   I definately have motard fever now, dr400sm here I come

One of my friends at work just bought a KTM 525EXC (enduro) with a street kit and a Supermoto kit. The knobbies stayed on for ~15 minutes.

This one's not his, but it is what it looks like:

For some reason I've just recently been hearing the phrase, motard.  What does it actually mean?  Best I can come up with is MOtocross for retards!

Hey, it's a joke!

Really, what is it?

Basically, it's French for Supermoto.
Literally translated it means Supermotorcyclist.

Comes from their translation of our created for TV sport of "Superbikers" which aired on ABC-TV from 1979 to 1985. It was a motocycle version of the IROC races where they took top riders from different m/c racing venues and had them run a course that was part paved, part dirt to see who was the best overall. Once Superbikers was dropped from US TV, it fell out of popularity in the US, but the French loved it and continued the genre. Only in recent years has it begun to regain popular appeal outside of France.

Most recently on X-Games (whatever roman numeral they're up to)....  It was an interesting course although the street part was kinda weak.  Nice break from the crazies doing double back-flips on Moto-x bikes.
