Well I checked my rack supports today and not even a hint of cracks. I bet the guy was carrying a huge 4ft touring bag complete with pots and pans. All I carry is clothing and a quart of Christian Brothers brandy.

I know it LOOKS sturdy, but the leverage applied by a few pounds of something hanging out there apparently is enough to cause trouble.
Now, if you've got some welding skills, you could add some stitches and maybe even some extra material to beef it up so it'll survive better...

Bah!

I figured out his problem:
1. Suzuki's welding team is blind
2. Bandit frames are made from cheap brittle steel
3. He's in Canada   :duh:

Seriously, I picked up a factory rack for my Bandit and will probably be modifying it for some additional support by running bars forward to the front frankenbolts, a support up and across the top of the seat and some additional bars on top.  I'm also looking at running a couple of down bars, turned forward and bolting up where the passenger brackets used to be and putting a couple of gusset plates where the upper mounts are tack welded to the tail section.  Since I don't carry any passengers, that space is going to be used for carrying computers and/or parts for work.  I may also setup a quick mount system using  threaded inserts to hold the tail section on and then allen bolts to actually hold the rack in place when I need it.  I don't always have to carry stuff but have been known to strap down a server with flatpanel on occasion

Anybody know who makes this lower fairing? Or how about those saddlebags?

The saddlebags look to be Givi's. Looks like their Monokey V35 on the sides and the Monokey V46 up top.

Not sure who's making that fairing. I looked at the lowers built by JMV Concept, Metisse & TCP - the three outfits that made lowers for the 2G - and it doesn't look like the ones they offer for the latest body style.

If you want to see what they're offering, here's some links:

Metisse
TCP Aerodynamics

Hate to be a traitor, but if we're talking Sport-Touring, this has bumped the FJR from my moto-lust list:

If you do any welding please take pics, so I can consider  similar work in the future. Always good to have a point of reference.

Yeah, I pulled the tail section off tonight and there's room for some improvement when it comes to welds. Prior to pulling parts, I managed to lift the rear of the Bandit briefly by lifting on the rack.  It didn't bend but again, it's not the sturdiest piece.
Since I'm going with some other Bandit riders on a Yosemite ride in the late spring, I figure to be carrying a duffle bag filled with clothes, sleeping bag, and assorted touring necessities, total weight about 35 lb's

Yup the concours is on my list as well and I am waiting for a major magazine like Cycle World to pick it apart as there seems to be a lot of 1st technology claimed in that bike for the 1st year of production. But from what I have read it is targeted to be the ultimate in super sport touring without compromise.

Did you take that pic at a bike show?

Thanks for the links. You're right, it doesn't look like any of the aftermarket fairings currently offered.

I'd sure like to know where to get one...

ZOOMER, I found the pic on another board, the person who posted it didn't say where he got it. It does look like it was at a bike show somewhere though.

Sweet, huh?  :bigok:

Also looks like it has a GPS mount...I must admit I don't understand using GPS on a bike.  First, it seems dangerous to look/play with it while riding, and second isn't getting lost half the fun?

You should give it a try - you may change your mind. If you use it wisely it's like a Heads Up Display. It's great when you can see what the next turn looks like on an unfamiliar road. You can also see if that interesting looking road actually leads anywhere and is not just a dead end. Almost like your own little crystal ball :).

As for getting lost, now I can get lost on purpose and still be able to find the shortest/fastest way home whenever I decide to turn back.

Sorry, I posted this in the "Oktober pics" thread, but since this is about sport touring, I figured I'd stick it in here too.

I recently wrote some companies regarding the availability of lower fairings for the '07.

I just received the following reply from TCP:

Dear Sir,

many thanks for your interest in our products. This product will NOT fit on the `07 model,
but as far we are informed, soon an original Suzuki accessory like this will be available.

Best regards,

Patric Janke
TCP SA

From Suzuki, aye? Now I wonder if it's the one pictured here:

I also wonder if those saddlebags will be offered as a color-matched accessory?

Hmmmmm!

My guess is yes, since Suzuki offers color-matched bags for the V-Stroms and also offered color matched bags in '05 & '06 on the Bandits in Europe.

Yep, I knew about the bags,,, I recently sold a DL650 V-Strom.

The lower fairing is what I'm hoping for, and the one in the pic doesn't look like any of the ones offered by the aftermarket companies... so the chances are that's the one!  :bigok:

Also, in response to your comment in Bazza's "for sale" thread, it would make the most sense to have the O2 sensor installed in the collector rather than the mid-pipe or the muffler. I could be wrong, but I've had a bit of schooling in emissions systems and that's where I'd expect it to be. Easy to run a wire there, and you'd get the best reading also.

I didn't want to muck up Bazza's thread any more than it was... the man is trying to sell some gear after all.  :duh:

So you guys think we'll be able to get that fairing and stuff from Suzuki? Wow, that would be cool!
I can just imagine what that red one would look like in black! Sorta like this but with a lower fairing!

That's just awesome!  :bigok:

Zoomer, my dealer just called me yesterday and said the black 1250 she ordered before Xmas is due in the next week or two. I'm not holding my breath, but it's in the system now so who knows? Would be nice.

Anyway, the black is a great color, and yes, I can imagine the red one in black!

I don't know where you 're getting yours but you might want to call and check on it. Could be soon...  :beers:

I always wondered if those Givi style trunks could be made out of cast iron as a barbecue option accessory as well as the ABS. You could cook your food on the way to the annual country bumpkin picnic and with ABS as an option, not have to worry about tossing the victuals.
