I just saw a race on Speed channel between a 2002 VROD and a 1983 GS1100G. It was a best of three race on a 1/4 mile strip, for pink slips. The first 2 passes were straight up, with the Harley winning the first by just a little. The GS got off to a slow start and came on strong at the end. The second pass had the GS win by about a bike length and pulling away. After the Harley guy was blaming the temperature and a hot clutch for the loss, Immagine that from an air cooled engine. In order to get him to race a third time, they had to give him time to cool down and he also got a bike length head start. He was still whining about the heat and his clutch at the start. On this pass the VROD got a great start, the gs wheelied and he had to back off to get it down. The VROD led for nearly all the race due to the good holeshot and the staggered start. At the end theGS raced passed and one by a length once again. The Vrod guy was out of excuses and also out one very expensive bling monster. I was happy to be the only Suzuki Rider in a group of HARLEY posers, My bike was the only one in the parking lot, but there was a lot of HD gear walking around the bar.
