Here in SC, there's no helmet law...so most riders you see on a bike in the summer are wearing SHORTS, t-shirt, and usually no helmet!
Sometimes you'll see a fancy helmet.....racing gloves....tshirt and shorts, untied tennies...on a HAYABUSA!
I posted this on the board previously, but it vanished in the crash.
Other than road rash reasons.....shorts are pretty dumb to wear around any running bike, period!
Last year, I was wearing shorts when loading my Bandit in the trailer.
The pipe was hot, and I bumped my leg on it when tieing it down.
No big deal, a nice sized blister.....but a week later I was in the emergency room, getting an IV drip of something. The burn became infected, I had a fever...and it was costly!
Yes, this is more a case of 'not taking care of a minor wound', but, I've had several burns from bumping a hot pipe while wearing shorts, as well as seeing several other people do the same thing. (riders, passengers, etc.)
I really avoid being around a running bike in shorts, but sometimes when I'm working on the bike, and not intending to ride, I'll wear them.
Yeah, I'm a klutz.......if there's something hot in the area, it's like a magnet to whatever bare skin I have at the time.
