Teens arrested following motorcycle accident

In the early hours of Thursday morning, two Stoughton teens were arrested following a motorcycle accident on Bay Road.

Thomas Murphy, 18, and Ihor V. Havrylv, 18, both of 196 Greenbrook Drive, Stoughton, were each charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle. Havrylv was also charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle negligently so as to endanger, and failure to stop for a police officer while operating a motor vehicle.

Police responding to a 911 call for an accident on Bay Road found a motorcycle crashed into a pole on the side of the road. There was no operator in the vicinity. A witness reported seeing one male party flee the scene. An officer found a damaged license plate on the motorcycle and transmitted the numbers back to dispatch. The motorcycle, a 1993 Yamaha, had been reported stolen by Randolph Police the day before the incident, police said. The bike had recently been repainted yellow.

Shortly thereafter, Stoughton Police Officer Kevin Lima observed a motorcycle with two occupants traveling on Bay Road toward Sharon. The officer, with his flashlight, signaled the operator to pull to the side of the road. The operator, later identified as Havrylv, swerved around the officer and continued traveling on Bay Road, according to police.

Havrylv, with Murphy riding on the back, was stopped on Sharon Street by officers.

The motorcycle Havrylv was operating, a black Honda, was reported stolen by Brockton Police on Sept. 13. The Honda was originally red and had recently been repainted. Both men were placed under arrest.

Murphy sustained injuries in the accident and was treated at the scene by the Stoughton Fire Department before being transported to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospital.

Sharon police also responded to the scene.
