Question on a 95 B6
« on: October 09, 2006, 08:22:16 PM »
I was taking a long ride down to Philly today and on the way back I passed a shop selling a 95 Bandit 600S (or was it a 650S? Don't remember). Don't know what shape the engine's in, but the bike looks mint.

They posted a $2700 sign on it. I didn't stick around to ask, but does that sound high for that bike? Seems so to me, but it did look mint. I've been thinking along the lines of a 2001 SV650, but I kinda liked the looks of that bike, and it had a fairly upright seating position (which I prefer).

I'd like to know what you guys think of that, and how you compare that to the SV 650. I think the SV650 is really the way to go, but I figured I'd get some feedback from you guys. Thanks.

To answer your first question: $2,700.00 might be a little steep unless there was no visible damage or pending internal problems, low miles, lots of accessories, and a clear title.

To answer your second question: The Bandits are powered by one of the best engines in production ( the GSX/GSF 600 powerplant has been on the racetrack and road for 18+ years and counting). The Bandit 600has a little more horsepower (73 rwhp) vs. the SV650 (65rwhp), however the SV makes more torque (42 ft. lbs.) vs. the Bandit 600 (39 ft. lbs.). The Bandit 600 is heavier weighing 452 lbs dry vs. the SV 650 384 lbs. dry. Top speed on the Bandit 600 is 130mph. vs. 127 mph on the SV650. Overall they both have similar performance, but the SV 650 is easier to pop a wheelie, because of the torque created by the twin at a lower rpm. :beers:

The Sv 650 s is a much sportier bike, but don't get me wrong, I'm loyal to my B6 because it can roll just as hard as the SV and keep you more comfortable with it's upright seating position also.

One banana for each bike
The only thing that matters is how fast you can get from 0 to 60, because top speed is secondary

First year for the Bandit GSF600S was 1996, hitting the dealers in late 1995.
Should be able to talk them down a bit. But if it has new tires and new chain and sprockets and low miles and it ready to roll without putting more money into it. Check the brakes and the rotors. Rotors are costly so a low mile bike should have low wear on the rotors.

Thanks for the replies. The speedo lists 8+k on the miles, I'll have to assume that's actual milage, although it sounds awfully low for an 11 year old bike (if true, do owners of sport bikes actually ride them? I must have put over 10k in one year alone on my B4).

The bike looks pretty much like your avatar image chupacabra. It's a wonderful-looking bike, but that dry weight is definitely a turn-off. Definitely nicer-looking that an SV650, IMHO, although the 2002-and-earlier SV's are still nice-looking. Practically all new bikes have that "Praying Mantis" look that I'm not all that fond off.
