Black or chrome engine guards...what looks best?

Stormi, it looks to me like all three of my options (Suzuki, Givi, Renntec) attach to at least one of the motor mounts on each side.  Probably two on each side, now that I study the pictures.  Hmmmm...

From what I read, I seem to recall it was the Givi ones that were the culprit in the particular instance I'd read about.  

There was some comment about them being too flat on the surface that was presented to the road in a crash.  Somehow they transferred too much force the the mount.  (Of course the comment was made by a CAD operator that I know, not an engineer, so it could have been F.O.S. )

I can definitely see how it would happen though.  I'm pretty sure the one I read about was on a 919, and the engine is a stress member in that bike.  The mount can be repaired, but insurance isn't likely to be onboard for that.  They'd likely write a cheque and be done with the bike.

"Desolation Angel" I'm gonna pull the sliders off my bike and go with engine guards instead this summer.  I believe they're gonna give me much better protection.  I'm just hung up on whether to go chrome or black.

I HAVE THE CHROME RENNTEC ENGINE GUARDS ON MY RED 1200 BANDIT.....I THINK THAT THE CHROME LOOKS GOOD NEXT TO THE BLACK ENGINE AND THE RED FRAME.....



I ALSO LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SO MUCH STURDIER THAN THE SUZUKI FACTORY ENGINE GUARDS.....

I NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED USING FRAME SLIDERS; I JUST DON'T FEEL THAT THEY WILL PROTECT MY ENGINE IN A MINOR FALL OR A CRASH.....

I did an experiment today, which my back is making me painfully aware of, and laid the bike down in the garage.  The sliders and bar end weights DO keep the plastics and engine case off the perfectly flat garage floor.  I'm thinking maybe I'll stick with 'em a little longer and keep thinking on it.  They are $100+ Metisse sliders after all.

I think it all depends on the style you have. I once heard someone say chrome is for harley's to, but I think it goes well with a bandit as well.

I set it down VERY gingerly, I assure you, with my 11 year old daughter watching over me.

The 919 got dumped in the grass this weekend.  (I wsn't there for the event, so I didn't see what was touching the ground)  It has frame sliders on it as well.  

I found grass on the chain, rear tire, frame sliders, bars, and a little loose stuff on the crankcase cover.  Not a scratch on it.

I've been told that frame sliders are (mostly) for slow speed drops, and engine guards are for high speed.  We went to a "bike gathering" yesterday, and someone who's been riding much longer than me approved of the pucks on my bike.
