JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are looking into an accident on Beach Boulevard involving two motorcycles.

East bound lanes of Beach Blvd., just after Kernan Blvd., were closed for a short time as investigators searched for one of the motorcyclists.

According to police investigating the accident, speed was a factor in the accident.

Police say two men on motorcycles got tangled up near the Wolf Creek subdivision around 3:30 A.M. Monday.

One man, a Navy officer, ended up on the shoulder of the road, his motorcycle in two pieces. Police say he is now at Shands Jacksonville in fair condition.

The other bike involved was found abandoned in the median, and the driver couldn't be found.

Investigators made a line search along Beach Boulevard, in a nearby apartment complex, and in the woods on both sides of the road.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office also brought in a K-9 unit and a helicopter to help find the missing motorcyclist.

After hours of searching, the missing man was no where to be found, but just before 7:00 A.M., troopers learned he was at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

They are now speaking with him to find out what his condition is, and exactly what caused the accident.

Second Victim Of Early-Morning Motorcycle Crash Found, Ticketed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police responding to an early-morning motorcycle accident were concerned not about what they found, but what they did not find -- one of the riders.

Police found two motorcycles had crashed about 4:15 a.m. Monday on Beach Boulevard near the intersection with Kernan, but they could only find one rider.

The one victim, Kenneth Smith, 28, was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, and police shut down all eastbound lanes for several hours while they searched for a second rider.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators later learned that the second rider, Joshua Clyburn, 21, had walked to a friend's house, who took Clyburn to St. Vincents Hospital.

According to the FHP, both motorcycles were traveling east when the front wheel of the Clyburn's Honda hit the rear wheel of Smith's Suzuki. Neither driver was wearing a helmet.

Troopers cited Clyburn with failure to report an accident with injuries, lacking a motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license and being an uninsured motorcyclist without a helmet.
