Two Bikers Crash In Suffolk Police Chase

Oct 17, 2005 7:05 am US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) MANORVILLE, Long Island Two motorcyclists who sped away from police at speeds of 100 miles per hour, were found a few miles down the road crashed alongside the road at a curve. Suffolk County police say they stopped chasing the motorcycles on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville because the riders were driving recklessly, and a chase would have endangered other motorists.

However the police kept surveillance on the motorcyles and learned they exited the L-I-E in Manorville.

Police found both motorcycles crashed along North Street in Manorville, where both riders apparently spun out on a curve.

Police identify the riders as 27-year-old Juan Cespedes-Garcia, Jr. of Richmond Hill, Queens and 31-year-old Joan Marte of Corona, Queens.

Cespedes-Garcia is in Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition and Marte was treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

Both men were given several traffic tickets. The accident happened at 4:42 yesterday afternoon.
