Wacky insurance quotes
« on: September 09, 2006, 12:45:50 AM »
I was just pricing the insurance on some bigger bikes and here's the prices I got. Keep in mind insurance is expensive in Canada.

My current ride
1991 Bandit 400 -- $750 cdn a year

New quotes
1997 Bandit 1200 -- $2300 (no theft, no colision)
2003 SV1000 -- $2000 (no theft, no colision)
2003 GSX-R-600 -- $4500 (no theft even available, no colision)
2003 Bandit 600 -- $4000 (no theft, no colision)

Hmmmm... let me see do I want a bandit 1200 or a bandit 600? I think I'll get a 1200 and save myself $2000 a year! Yeee Hawww....

The SV1000 is tempting, but the cost of a used sv1000 is almost double the cost of a used bandit 1200. While I'd love to play with FI an extra $3500 bucks start up fee isn't worth it...

Have you tried TDCanada Trust?  I used to pay $580 a year for my old 88 Savage and now pay $950 for my brand new 650 Bandit.  Those prices of yours seem incredibly high....I've heard the insurance through PC (Zehrs) is really cheap as well.

We sure get ripped up here.  My nephew in California pays $200 a year and he wipes out once a week.

I figure it's partly the small population as we're only 1/10th the size of the States. The other part is GREED on the side of the insurance companies, of course.

I'm not sure if your insurance is regulated or not... but our isn't regulated. And the insurance companies here that do bikes are pulling an OPEC.

Jim my insurance is going to be higher mostly due to my age and location. Since I'm 27 and in the heart of "downtown" they rape me... I called a big list of companies when I first got my little bandit and that was the best price I could get. When I actually buy another bike I'll price out insurance again, but I'm guessing its going to be close to those numbers.

I was pretty much expecting $2000 a year for a bigger bike. I thought the bandit 1200 might be more expensive though... so I'm happy. I guess bandit riders don't crash and die as often. Good on the statistics guys.

Wow, I pay $78.00 a year for my 97 1200 bandit, and $75.00 for my 73 Z1 900.  :stickpoke:  Thats no collision and theft.
Does your insurance in some way pay for the "free" healthcare we hear about??? That could explain the higher rates.

Our insurance is private up here (in Ontario, anyway) but that being said, the insurance companies and the government are definitely in bed with each other.  I just heard when you look at all the ways we are taxed, our taxes are actually higher than any other nation, including Scandinavian countries! :stop:

Wow I have Gieco and for both my 05 Bandit and my 04 DRZ400s I pay $200 a year combined for liability only. But I am 49 and retired so that probably makes a difference. If your going to get liability only make sure they take off the uninsured and underinsured motorist which is also useless and cost a lot but not required.

Yikes! :crybaby:

I pay $390.00 CAN a year for my 2002 B-12 with full coverage here in Alberta. That is with Jevco Insurance.

I do have a 6 star rating (no claims or tickets in 6 years) & also 5+ years with motorcycle insurance (it's actually 33 years) Man I am getting old!

However my agent did quote me $2300.00 a year for a Busa which Jevco will not insure. (Why I did not buy the Busa)

To some degree your right about taxes but it was also commented in a recent CNN documentary show that the US is the easiest nation in the world to get rich, that the economy makes it easy for the entrepreneur to get started in business because there are so many tax breaks for companies including start-up companies and that the majority of the tax burden is on the working class.  I was pretty much a worker being in the Coast Guard for 30 years. But I realized long ago that like everything else in this country it was a choice and I have no doubt that if I had wanted it bad enough I could have been extra wealthy also, I say extra wealthy because our standard of living is so much higher then other countries that we still have it pretty good .

marco is selling his SV and it is perfect++
i have primum insurance right now $1200 for B12
will be switching to monex in january $745

marco sold his kawasaki 600 and got the sv1000 because of crazy insurance.   sv is not sport by some.

same with b12   some rate it as sportbike and some are smarter.

state farm has better rates too.

If you are having problems with high insurance premiums. Try an online quote with www.bike-line.com
The only thing that matters is how fast you can get from 0 to 60, because top speed is secondary

I just bought a Yamaha Vino 125 scooter for short trips to the corner store so I don’t have to fire up my B12 for a one mile trip. So now besides my B12 and DRZ 400s, I just added the new Vino 125 to my policy and I was please to hear from the Gieco agent that my motorcycle policy premium would remain at $210 per year for all three motorcycles. Wow!
