so to speak.....
I've fallen into a few bux, paid off the mortgage and decided to go for the G3B12 as soon as the dealers get them in.....

I haven't been this excited about a bike since I bought my CB750K0 brand new in March of 1970. Now THAT was exciting....of course I WAS much younger then, too....

I'm kinda glad I waited for the '06 model since it looks like the end of the line for the 1200 version and this will be a bike I'll be keeping for a lonnnnggg time. Now, maroon or blue.....ABS or not......decisions, decisions...
As a matter of curiosity, has anyone seen any spyshots of a "1400 Bandit"

Congrats on the new Bandit... :)

The GSX 1400 has actually been around a while, it' just not available here from Suz... I think it started in Japan as a replica 80's race bike a couple years ago similiar to the Kawi Zrex Eddie Lawson following in style and USA audience...

From the reports its not really that powerful. It's more of a low rpm/torque horse than the higher revving Bandit...
Stock:
100bhp at 6,500rpm
90ft-lbs at 5,000rpm

Maybe not in the shear Horsepower stakes, but F*#* me standing, I don't know, little known care what the figures say, but I can tell ya first hand, the gsx14 will out pull just about anything and everything. All I can say is try hanging onto one, heading very quickly toward 300kph with a gear to go. And if it aint most usable HP and torque, bloody awesome machine, and not to shabby in the handling department either.

I very nearly bought a GSX1400 instead of the Bandit. But after talking with the dealer I bought the B12 - saved myself 2 grand in the process.

Exactly what did the dealer say that made me change my mind??????

"Mick, the GSX1400 is certainly more poweful and a damn site faster, but it's higher up the rev range, the 1400 doesn't pull from as low as the 1200 and the mid range torque's not as good, and lets face it most of us live in the low to mid range anyway"

That was 4 year ago, and I'm still the proud owner of a Black B12 and have never regretted buying it...

I think yall are confusing the Suzuki GSX1400 with the Kawasaki ZX14. The GSX is a low revver, max hp is reached at 6000rpm (2500 lower than the bandit)... And it only puts out 100bhp, but a nice 90ft/lbs of torque. Which means it has a lower revving/higher torque engine than the B12.

The Kawi ZX14 is the big power monster, see my link below.

TWO DIFFERENT BIKES with very different audiences and power results---> Suzuki GSX1400 and Kawi ZX14...

and the GSX is not very power impressive for a 1400 motorcycle... IMHO

Well, you could've fooled me.

I've ridden both and the GSX1400 'feels' revver and less torquee in the mid range,

But the figures prove my 'seat of the pants' completely wrong. It looks like I'm not much a dyno machine.

Either way, I still say the B12 is a better bike......

Yup, Mick, I agree... the GSX would feel quite a bit more powerful in the lower and mid range. They're real close in HP anyway, so torque is what you're feeling... But you're limiting your opinion with your comment "but I can tell ya first hand, the gsx14 will out pull just about anything and everything".

I'd put a huge bet on the Hayabusa or ZX12R, if you paired either up with the GSX1400 or the B12 and win the bet hands down... There are stock bikes that have been on the market for a while that will kick the GSX's butt...

Anyway, notice the dynos below --> the difference in torque curves at 4-6000rpm... There's where your seat of the pants feeling is coming from... as you can see there's quite a difference in the torque at those levels. A stock B12 at under 80ftlbs torque just can't compare to a bigger bore bike with 90ftlbs... Until the HP in the B12 starts trying to make up the diference in the upper rpms (above 6500rpm)...

Mike,

I think you're getting a bit confused between B6Mick and Aussiebandit Mick.

But your points are well made, and illustrated. The torque curve certainly does explain my 'seat of the pants' feeling. Geez the B12's torque curve is quite flat compared the the GSX1400.

I've never really studied the torque and power curves of the B12 before, but it also explains why I 'instinctivley' ride in the 6-8000 rpm range when I'm having a play on my favourite roads. By the way my B12 is absolutely stock standard as far as perfomance goes.

I haven't, but take a look at the B-King concept bike of a couple years ago and the 2006 GSR600. Rumors have it there'll be a liter and/or liter-plus class bike based on this styling. This is likely to be the replacement for the Bandit. Haven't heard any rumors of a faired version though... Perhaps the B12S will be replaced by somoething along the lines of the Stratosphere?
