What is it worth?
« on: April 28, 2005, 10:59:25 AM »
Ok guys

I happen to know where there is a 2003 B12s leftover for sale, and i cant quit thinking about it. Im going to go look at it this weekend and was wondering what should someone pay for it? Any tips for negotiating with the price? I happen to know that this bike has been in the showroom for quite a while so i think they would be egar to move it.

Also the Oil burners where 01 and 02's right?

Thanks

Depending on how badly they want to move it......somewhere from $5500 to $6300, out the door.
(Local variables include taxes you HAVE to pay before leaving the bike with the dealer, etc.)
I'd be happy with $5800-6000, not including whatever local taxes they nail you with....licensing....etc.
Screw 'prep' charges.   Fix an 'out the door' figure in your mind before you negotiate.
They can add whatever charges they want to the price.....but you're only paying 'X" to take the bike home.
I don't care if they write it up as.......

$300  Purchase price, new Suz Bandit B12s, 2003.
    $5700, Dealer Prep Fee...............

If they won't negotiate much on purchase price, you can try to get them to throw in stuff, like extended warranty,  first COMPLETE service, (Value $100-300),  Helmets, accessories, etc.
If this is a dealer you are happy with, particularily the shop....going a couple hundred higher is OK with me.   Keep them in business!

Srew 'em.  Throw them a wicked low-ball.  I'd say $4,600.
Maybe $5,000 out the door (with tax).

If they say no, say bye-bye.
Call them a few days later and ask if they had any better offers.  If not, tell them your offer stands and see what they say.

Remember..... Cash talks!!!!!!  Assuming you have the assets to do so.  I wanted case guards thrown in after we settled on OTD price - at first they said no but when I offered cash instead of a credit card they gave 'em to me.  The last piece of a great deal is getting the best price and one extra thing.  Good Luck!!!

Right.

I'd try Manny's method. I kind of doubt they'll take it, but they might. I wouldn't go over $6000 OTD for it though. Anything over that and you might as well buy an '05, which you should be able to get OTD for not much more and it won't instantly be a two year old bike.

The thing to remember is that most dealers don't own the bikes.  They effectively finance them till they are sold.  A "flooring" company owns them and a dealer has to pay a "flooring" charge on each unit.  Usually the dealer gets the bike for a grace period for free for a few months and then has to pay anywhere to over $100 a month on some models.  That means the bike has already cost the dealer any profit they will make.

They will try to cut their losses by getting as much for the bike as possible, but either way they want to get rid of it as soon as possible because it is costing them money every day.
They would now rather sell it for really cheap than not at all, which is not the case with a new bike in the grace period I mentioned above.  New bikes don't cost them money, so if they don't like the price you are offering to pay, they'll tell you "no deal" in hopes of getting more money from the next guy.

$5500 with 2 HJC helmets is what I paid for my 03 about 8 months ago and it was used. I think if you can get it out the door for that you would be doing really well.
