What is wrong with people?
« on: May 09, 2006, 12:00:46 PM »
Why do they lie about every freakin' thing?  Why are they so incredibly cheap sometimes?

I frequent another motorcycle board over the last couple of years.  A couple of the folks who are well respected and always full of accurate and useful repair and upgrade advice AND are longterm popular members recently had need of certain parts.  By coincidence I just happened to have NOS (new old stock) parts lying around that I no longer needed.  I offered the parts for free to my online buds with only the request that they pay the shipping.  They both agreed happily.

Postage on one part to one guy by regular mail was only about a $1.50.  Two other parts by UPS to another guy cost $12.00 shipping.  The value of the parts IF they could have found them was around $150-$200.  Kinda of rare items.

Guess who hasn't seen a dime a month after shipping?  Me.  Guess who just act perfectly normal and everything's cool online?  Them.

Sorry, but it kinda peels my scab that I gave 'em stuff I paid for and they didn't follow through with what they said they'd do.  When I deal with people, I do exactly what I say!!!

Yeah, they know my address.

Yes, I can still afford food.  Just the principle of the thing.

Thank you for listening.  Have a nice day!  :beers:

First off, in deals like that, figure out the cost of shipping, have them send the funds, THEN send them their parts.

Have you PM/emailed them about the money? If not, do it. It may have just slipped their mind. If after a couple of reminders they don't follow thru, you can either chalk it up to experience, or you can take it public and make a post about what asshats they are and how they won't even pay for the shipping of the parts you so graciously gave them for the cost of shipping, even after you made attempts to get them to reimburse you... kinda like you did here, only name names. Then others on the board will be aware of what they're dealing with when dealing with these folks.

+1  name names

otherwise they just get away with it... like you said it's not really about te dollar, it's about keeping your word (integrity).

I had a college friend (pledge brother in my fraternity), he wanted my Ruger .357.  We agreed on a price and he said he'd pay me next pay check.  Long story short, he never did, finally moved to Atlanta 3 months later and didn't leave his address.  I knew his dad and asked for his Atlanta address and why I needed it.  2 weeks later I had my money in the mail.  I would assume his dad reamed his ass about keeopng his word, but I never asked or have seen him since.

Hell, the financial world does the same thing with credit ratings.  don't pay your debts, and people/businesses won't trust you.

Well, sometimes you think you sort of get to know somebody after enough months of talking with them and kidding around.  I've mentioned it once to each of them.  One wrote me once to "verify" my address.

Please.  Tape a dollar bill and two quarters in an envelope and mail it out at the street.  Geez.  And they're both like gods on the board they are so looked up to.  I really have no desire to embarass them publicly.  I'm just that dumb.

I'm gonna wait until the next parts hunting thread and just warn everybody about it then.

It's just a headshaker to me.

Desolation:

 Don't let a couple of bad apples spoil the bushel!  I've done the same thing both ways and was thinking of doing it with a used 18" tire I have off a bmw right now...I've always had good luck - most people (especially bikers ) are honest folk, I find.

Good luck!

PS - send me something and I swear I'll pay the postage and even give you a tip for your effort!

You are a rare breed DA. I always deal fairly with people but there are a lot of crooks out there. I have been treated very well by folks on this board.

I guess the guys here are unusual.

The problem with people is they eat too much food. They also breathe too much and are definately too noisy. What are we talking about?

I feel you're pain on this board I've both been sent free stuff like shims and given stuff out without any qualms. Some people are just cheesy, and they breathe too much air too.
2005 Bandit 1200, Modified Holeshot Stage 1 with 17.5 pilots 2.75 turns out, and 110 mains 5 shims. Muzzy Slip on w/mid-pipe, stock filter. 1.5" hole in the airbox lid.

Ah christ mate sorry to hear about that. Whenever I get something off ht elads fromt he net. I either go meet them or send them the money first. Granted I live in Ireland so if I wanna go all the way up north to meet one of the lads it will only take me a few hours. You should go onto this site and name and shame the lads whom done this.

oh oh. just remembered. Even better. since you posted stuff onto them, you kjnow there addresses. he he he. Go for a long spin someday and give a little  bang on the front door then skulldug the heads off them, thats my two cents worth anyways.

I guess I should admit to a good experience with someone once.  I happened to inherit a huge Mitsubishi projection T.V. in a beautiful oak cabinet; very expensive set.  Used it for a couple of years and it started flipping.  Would roll for 30 minutes or so when you first turned it on.  T.V. shop said they knew the problem, common with that model of Mitsubishi, and it would cost $400 to fix it.

Needless to say I wasn't putting $400 into a 1994 model T.V., but I hated to lose it, too.  Mentioned the problem on another board and one guy chimed in and said he knew what was up and that there was a $30 workaround for it and to hold up a few days while he did some research.  He PMed me and asked for my address; said he had a part and would send it to me.  If it worked, send him $30.  If it didn't, send the part back.

I'll be darned, but it worked!  I sent him the money and a $20 tip for his trouble.  And I felt bad only sending that much.

The moral is, sometimes trust is warranted.

People amaze me.  Often times it's people who are pretty well off financially that do stuff like you mentioned Herb.  I have a friend who once ran a store.  He said some of the biggest theives were fancy women who drove up in big cadillacs.  They would try to steal stuff in the store.  Some people think "oh well, it's just a dollar or two, it doesn't really matter".  It's cases like that where you give even more back than asked, especially since they got the parts for free.  I'd be kicking in a little extra as a thank you.

Herb my man, your experience, truly saddens me, not that the dollars count I agree, it’s the principle. I to have frequented other boards and the same sort of low life shyte has happened. Mind you I have known 2 forums who have booted members, for such lowlife behavior, and it has been done publicly, so as to protect their fellow members.
However I know of a forum based here in Aust, that this type of lowlife gets promoted to forum moderator, once a lowlife always a lowlife name the pricks within their forum, and protect your fellow forum member.
Foot loose and fancy free.
Looking for adventure and what ever comes our way.

So what bike did these parts fit?  Perhaps a Suzuki GS? Some other?

Funny you mentioned that... when I was stationed in SoCal, they caught a woman stealing in the Base Commisary. Turned out she was the wife of a retired admiral. She lived in a well-to-do neighborhood and drove a Caddy.
Said she did it for the thrill.
Cost her all her military benefits though... helluva price to pay for a cheap thrill.
